soulsalmon Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 The piano break on the moovers one little dance
Gilly Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 The piano break on the moovers one little dance Yes your quite right Mr Soulsalmon and heres a few more, 1 Carlena Weaver -Jealously -Audel Records. The trumpet break has a miss-note, as does Little Ritchie -Just Another Heartache also in the break. If you listen to the The 4 Tops -Just Ask The Lonely - on Levis second verse his voice drops on one word (oh it makes it sound so much better) and iv'e just noticed that all three of my examples the song title begins with the letter J Regards to Soulsalmon and all.
KevH Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Out of tune ?.Surely you mean the break is recorded in reverse?
KevH Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 The piano break on the moovers one little dance Always brings a smile to my face tho'. 6 out of 10 - must try harder .
Guest isis Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Quite a few bum guitar notes in "Rosemary"...sounds like they couldn't really be ar*ed.
Windlesoul Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 That looooooow note on 'Pyramid' .... The Flairs are a bit tuneless (but kind of works).... Paul Sindab (can't reach the high notes on I was a fool) Othello Robinson (painful) Jackie Beavers (Come back my love - again kind of works!) .......And a thousand girlie tunes. Mark.
Pete S Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 George lemons - Fascinating Girl, try finding the bit that's IN tune!
The Tempest Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 George lemons - Fascinating Girl, try finding the bit that's IN tune! Good call

HERBERT HUNTER? Bloody majestic record, strange how tastes differ!

JACKIE BEAVERS 'Come back my love' - Kind of works??? Bloody masterpiece in my book!
Ernie Andrews Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 (edited) The Superiors - Id rather Die - Sue Sounds like the guy is being executed never mind out of tune which it is Forgot to say- I bloody love it! Edited November 10, 2009 by Ernie Andrews
Guest Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 GENE DOZIER - You're the best girl (I've ever had) Lovely midtempo 70s but he not only goes out of tune but seems to forget the words at one little moment in the 2nd verse!
Pete S Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 HERBERT HUNTER? Bloody majestic record, strange how tastes differ! Absolutely, one of the best ever!
Pete S Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 JACKIE BEAVERS 'Come back my love' - Kind of works??? Bloody masterpiece in my book! I love this as well but the first time you hear it you wonder where it's going with that chorus because there is no way she's going to be able to hit that note, but she does - after a fashion - it's got a nieve charm about it, wonderful record
Corbett80 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Dr. Truelove where Betty comes in...awful
gazman Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Johnny Gilliam - Tell your friends it's over - cancer. What the hell is going on there? gary
grant Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Surely you jest mate ? he's got an awful out of tune voice salmon......love the tune tho mate
John Al Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 L Allen - Can't We Talk It Over Both Larry & the band are all over the shop........
Pete S Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Does any one remember "Marching" by Camp where they're all talking at the beginning....What a bag of sh*te that was!! No what you're hearing is the backing track of a vocal by Val Simpson, they seem to have tried to remove all of the vocal track but you can still hear an echo of her lead vocal and some of the backing vocals, if you ever get to hear the vocal, you'll see what I mean
Codfromderby Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Johnny Gilliam - Tell your friends it's over - cancer. What the hell is going on there? gary i think the same was going on with room full of tears, more like room full beers id say, sounds like a pub singer after 14 pints of shipstones mild,
Pete S Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 So Valerie Simpson of writing and singing fame, with Nick Ashford is involved with this mess?? It's on one of my podcasts mate https://planetrecords.podbean.com/2009/07/05/more-rare-soul-from-the-vaults/ make more sense if you hear what it should have sounded like, it seems that the only reason "The Camp" came out is because they had an A side for a single, which I think was from a film or tv show, and they needed something - anything - to put on the B side.
Mach Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 (edited) another embarrassing ones, jerry fisher, on 3 speed, " i,ve got to find somebody to love",....feel like sitting him down, and giving him a glass of water... his voice actually gives out on one note.. Edited November 10, 2009 by Big Chris
Md Records Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Bit of herecy now, but Margaret Little is NOT a brilliant singer, fabulous backing though!! Des Parker P.S. Much as I love a lot of his tunes, why does Joe Simon's voice grate on me AT TIMES (I'll be burnt at the stake for this one) but honestly, only my opinion!!!
Guest pls1 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 The vocals on -the superlatives-i still love you- are a bit wild. "still neEED. . . . ". :-) Like someone said earlier i dont think it matters though
soulsalmon Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Gypsy Woman The Fabulous Peps Premium Stuff Good shout mate, the chorus is all over the place
grant Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Paris - sleepless nights... and another good shout, always sounds off centre at the start and the backing singers struggle with the high notes on the chorus
Sean Tasker Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Keni Lewis - What's her name One of my all time favourites, but listen to that opening line however when they get into the "gee I'm so glad that you called me" bit...magnificent!! Sean
Pete S Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Backing singers on Love Slipped Thru My Fingers are truly terrible
bri pinch Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 CAN'T THINK OF ANY NORTHERN SOUL RECORDS THAT ARE ACTUALLY IN TUNE BRI PINCH. TOP OF THE STAIRS, BLAH BAR, BARNSLEY, 28TH NOVEMBER. SUNDAY CHILLOUT@HORSE AND GROOM, 13TH DECEMBER, EAST LAITH GATE, DONCASTER.
Liljimmycrank Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) VOICE MASTERS - YOU HURT ME BABY ............The (thankfully) brief violin solo which leads into the vocals break where the tempo picks up sounds like it was done by a two year old playing three blind mice!! Great tune though! Edited November 11, 2009 by LilJimmyCrank
Guest Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) The 3 tunes that my wife mutters "God that's dreadful" whenever they are on...................... Sparkels....'Try Love' Herbert Hunter.....'I was Born to Love You' Little Carl Carlton....Competition ain't Nothing She is also shall we say 'negative' about 'Tears' so there is something going on here! Personally I love and own all four I have mentioned ......isn't one of the attractions of many Northern sounds that they carry a little imperfection and were not all produced up to Norman Whitfield standards. Love the flaws! dogstoat I know what you mean, but another attraction to me is the way you get some involving people like GEORGE CLINTON, GEORGE KERR, DON DAVIS and many, many others which equal or even surpass that standard. You listen to something like 'All I need is you' by JUNE CONQUEST and the laid back perfection of CURTIS MAYFIELD encapsulates perfect femme Soul at it's very best. Guest Dave Turner Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Clyde McPhatter - Please Give Me One More Chance about 1.42 minutes in sounds like the turntable all of a sudden drops to 33rpm for a few secs
Codfromderby Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 theres a great bum note in the middle of sam moultie ill always love you that always makes me smile, and phyliss dillon make me yours has been descibed as the singer and the band not being on speaking terms hence phyliss being about half a verse in front of the band
Guest POTTERIESPECK Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Me's the winner { yeah and it's one i like ] The Gypsies -- It's A Womans World.
Guest Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Me's the winner { yeah and it's one i like ] The Gypsies -- It's A Womans World. Yeah have to agree, that is a serious SHRIEKER in anybody's books!
ALIVE'N'KICKIN Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 One of my favorite records but Terry callier - look at me now. His voice goes way out of tune for the oh oh oh part at the beginning. As well as the bridge seems out of tune on the vontastics - never let our love grow cold.
Guest Mr messyhead Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Always thought the profiles - take a giant step a bit sloppy but on the other hand always thought Little Anthony - better use your head on VEEP was quite tight with it's orchestration etc. etc. Also thought it was ok listening to the toons at a niter etc because of the size of the halls and the decks etc etc. but when you listen to them on modern hi-fi's and through headphones you pick up on the backing vocals and backing instruments etc. but it doesn't prevent or distract from that "goosebump effect" the music gives when you listen to a good tune.
