Guest Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 (edited) Can anyone tell me what an original of Betty Fikes & The Passions - Prove It To Me looks like. Thanks in advance Look up a member called 'Greety' and ask him, he played at Lifeline last saturday and I am sure he mentioned somebody asking for it whilst he was djing. Sure he's got one. Top bloke, sure he won't mind telling you. Edited November 9, 2009 by chorleysoul
Sean Hampsey Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Orig = Light Blue. Pressings = Red. Sean
Guest gordon russell Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 original is blue ....comes from selma same town as the black lady who refused to give up her seat on the bus. Great to hear it played out by the greet man
Garethx Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Here's a scan of the original label. As the guys say above the pressing is on a red label. Never been that keen on 'Prove It' (preferring Dan Brantley's great original on Federal) but must say that I Can't Lie To My Heart would never be far from the top of any personal soul chart, a simply phenomenal record.
phillyDaveG Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Agreed. "I can't lie to my heart" is in my all time top 10, but I don't own one. So if anyone wants to sell me a copy?

Sean Hampsey Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 (edited) Agree "I Can't Lie To My Heart" is the killer side. You might like to see this recent video - Betty Fikes - in Selma, Alabama. Betty recorded a new album, only two months ago. I'll see you in church! Sean Edited November 9, 2009 by Sean Hampsey 1
Ady Croasdell Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Check out her previously unreleased Miles grayson produced side on Kent CD Masterpieces Of Modern Soul Vol 2, and the sleeve note about her black rights activism and appearing at the White House in recent years.
Greety Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Bloody hell Sean! Where did you dig up that Betty Fikes video from? Fantastic!!

Sean Yeah, I can just imagine Brother Greet and our lot walking into church after that recent Lifeline, the next sunday morning....Lord alive!
