My friend and I created a website that allows for the indexing of old soul and funk performance clips that are spread across different youtube, dailymotion, etc. accounts. The site is here:

https://www.changings...%20Performances

The idea is that there is a bunch of cool video content spread across the internet and I wanted to collect and accumulate it in one place and index it by artist, date, TV show, etc. So I created this forum on this site. Anyone can go to the page I linked above and view the already submitted content. If you click on the "filter" tab you can browse the existing content by artist, year, TV show, etc.

Additionally, if people want to participate and submit new content or comment and rate existing content, they can sign up on the main page at www.changingscene.com, join the channel I linked above, and then they can comment on existing videos on submit new videos by clicking the "submit" link in the upper right hand corner. This isn't a video hosting site, you just submit links to existing youtube, dailymotion, or other video hosting site videos. You can also subscribe to the channel and get an email on each new clip on the "dashboard" page.

The channel above is only intended for artist performances or real artist music videos, not recordings or fan-made videos. There is also a gospel performances channel at:

https://www.changings...%20Show%20Clips

There is also a sweet soul recordings channel at:

https://www.changings...%20Sweet%20Soul

Eventually I will let users create channels for anything they want but the site is in beta for now so they can't. But if someone wants me to create, for example, a northern soul dance clips channel, or anything else (doesn't really have to be music related even), and you think you can get people to participate, I can do that for you, pm me. Thanks.

Boba, I've just signed up and its occurred to me what provisions are there to prevent multiple uploads of the same videos. I suppose anyone could check with the filter system but it seems to me that sooner or later, especially as the number of videos increase, folks will be uploading vids without checking if that particular vid is already on the site.

That is a great idea and nice to see old classic music videos for soul music. Would be nice if we had more of it on VH1 Classic instead of same old like Sam cooke - Wonderful World always on VH1 classic and nothing else is shown.

I have that on the list of things to do (it's still in beta and we're still adding features). But there's no way to prevent multiple uploads of the same videos from different sources, obviously, but soon the site will at least recognize if you submit the same video from the same source and warn you. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks everyone for checking it out. Thanks.

ok, I'm bumping this if people haven't seen this because there's now 300 clips of of soul performances in the soul performances channel (only real footage, no audio clips or fan vids or anything like that!):

https://www.changingscene.com/Soul%20and%20Funk%20Performances

check it out if you haven't already, there's lots of ones you have seen and maybe weirdo ones you probably haven't

and 450 clips in the sweet soul channel (lots of cool ones, some hardcore collectors participating):

https://www.changingscene.com/Rare%20Sweet%20Soul

anyone can sign up and submit clips or comment on existing clips. If you want me to create a new channel for you about some other topic I can, in a few weeks I'm going to open it up so anyone can create a channel themselves about anything.

thanks,

Bob

Are 'Soul Train' clip readily available anywhere, I don't seem to see them.

Also, to settle an argument, was Soul Train broadcast on the TV in the afternoon in the early 70'S, like kid's TV time?

there were actually two soul train shows running concurrently, the local chicago one and the nationally syndicated one that don cornelius took to LA (which is probably the one you are asking about). The local chicago one ran early afternoon as you state. I'm pretty sure the national one also initially ran in the early afternoon in the early 70s.

there is a long history as to why episodes have been generally unavailable for viewing anywhere which has changed since don cornelius has recently sold the franchise.

Read more about the history in this article:
