Anyway how about a refoclip of the flip for us soulsoucers please, anyone ? could be the reason it's worth more than a tenner !!

Flipsides called "Go On".............remember Richard Searling playing it @ Newcastle dayer 79/80 after being requested for 'My World....." and introducing it as a much more soulful record. Its also on the flip of the "soul galore" boot

Me I love both sides....................but then I"m easily pleasedwhistling.gif

Great double sider. Kitchen sink proper Northern on one side and a neat plaintive beat ballad on the other. A Grand? I should koko! but a great record and one that I'm happy have kept over the years.

Dear Sir, Warrant Officer (Class1) 'l Should koko or is it coco?' is a brilliant expression from my army days....Next you'll be telling us that you have a copy that;s 'buckshee!' thumbup.gif

Here's a 'buckshee' one.

I just picked up a copy in Detroit and the thing that struck me when listening to it again after all this time is what a great singer Jimmy Mack was. He doesn`t miss a note and his range is fantastic.

Do we know anything about him?

First certainly shows he can sing Kenny (if it's the same Jimmy Mack) I heared somewhere there were 3 Jimmy Macks working around Detroit/Chicago area. Didn't one Jimmy Mack work in The University in Chicago and (apparently) taught Some of the big names in Chicago music theory and arrangments?

The second track. I'll stick to MWIOF.thumbup.gif

Without doing any research (cos i'm feeling lazy today)

Just wondered if the name JIMMY MACK is actually a reference name in the USA ??

Meaning in the same vane as the Jody /vietnam thing.

Just seems uncanny the way his name has been used in song titles IN THE 60's ??

Here, here Ken horrible record, never liked it.

Regards - Mark Bicknell.

I remember going up to the decks, being some 15 years old as i was, and asking the DJ man what the record was and how much "...about £100 on Palmer mate" - there's not many things i remember from that young age now - but that is as clear as day. I guess Mr DJ man Bicknell doesnt like it any more??

I think it was just a martha and the vandellas hit so it became a recognizable name due to that.

also, james mack was the name of an important arranger in chicago, he arranged a lot of records in the 60s and maybe most notably arranged tyrone davis' "in the mood". he passed away a year or two ago.

just listened to the b side, thats proper quality:thumbup:

Absolutely gorgeous toon / mellow groover.

Hi Bob

The flip of THE CLASSICS-LOOKIN FOR A LOVE (OF MY OWN) ...ALso has the flip " I'M JIMMY MACK"

Had a thought in my head that maybe he was someone who was a bit of a "jack the lad" (a player) with the ladies ???

I think it's just an answer to the vandellas record.

Also, I think James Mack arranged it? Or maybe he was somehow affiliated with the group? I always meant to contact him and then he passed. sad.gif

Cheers Bob ...im not feeling as lazy today so i decided to have a quick research and here's the finding's:-

" Martha Reeves had a dozen hit singles with Motown and "Jimmy Mack" was the final top 10 hit in the US in 1967. It had orignally been written back in 1964 but because of the potential connotations to the Vietnam War it was decided to shelve it at the time. It was the last contribution from the Holland-Dozier-Holland camp"

What were the connotations???g.gif

the connotations are the lyrics in the song, it's about "jimmy mack, when are you coming back". it's not inherent to the name "jimmy mack".
