Reg Scott Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 is there anything out there that can correct this be it machine or technique ta, shep oh......and im not that bothered with " i heard about a guy who once........" info only interested in hard facts backed up with evidence Hi Mark The obvious answer is to increase the weight on your tone arm. Dependent upon how much adjustment your deck allows, you can add more with a little blu-tac and some currency of the realm. I use 1p (1p > 3.56 g) or 20p (20p > 5.00 g). Cheap and cheerful I know but it does help to iron out the jumps in most cases. Regards..

richardf Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Hi Mark The obvious answer is to increase the weight on your tone arm. Cheap and cheerful I know but it does help to iron out the jumps in most cases. Regards.. There is an argument that adding mass to the headshell will improve it's holding qualities. However remember to readjust the counterweight. On a technics deck set the anti-skate to 0 and wind the counterweight back until the arm floats. Set the black dial to 0 and then wind the weight forward to the desired tracking weight (this will be on the cart instructions or generally 3 - 3.5 g is sufficient). Then reset the anti-skate,1.5 to 2 is about right. Just adding extra tracking force to the needle will distort the sound and possibly cause damage to your vinyl. Also make sure that the cart is straight in the headshell and the stylus is in the correct position (you can download templates from the internet for this). I always carry a set of headshells already set up that I use when playing out. As for warps there is not much you can do. Try leaving a pile of books on top of the record, that might help and won't cause any damage. I wouldn't do anything else such as heat unless the record is cheap and can be replaced. Hope this helps (prob not) Richard
Mal C Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 (edited) I've got a copy of John Tee - Crazy on original which I bought from somebody on here, anyhow its all mint except it's warped to hell, like a ski jump going up and down, that said, if you don't look at it you don't notice what so ever when played on my technic, and it looks mighty fine in its sleeve... A bargin at the price I paid, and a very rare 45 to boot... Mal.C. Edited October 26, 2009 by Mal.C.
