Leather soles work for me, and i know some of the dancers wear thick sole shoes for heal support, mind you i am not hitting the floor at present due to a tendon tear and it was not done on a talc laden floor, Regards Mall

If you dance for 95% of the time, you MAY need it, unlike alot who SIT & watch for 95% of the time !!!??? If youre respectful to others & prepared to stay & clean at the end, whats the problem........?

I do have problems with alot of the floors out there, if a little talc stops you putting a knee joint out or a tendon such as yourself, because youre wearing supportive shoes, i dont understand the issue? Its been part of the scene for decades.....can't believe every time i come on here there's another issue over it !!!??? Must have boring lives...... And while I'm on I don't know anyone who has ever been prepared to clean up their talc mess at the end of the night although I have heard of venue workers sweeping up talc mountains with long-handled sweeping brushes and I've seen the photographs to prove it. If I had my way it would be banned completely as its a bloody nuisance.

Those inconsiderate people who chuck loads of talc on the floor in different places, have half a dance as if they have been on the scene for more than five minutes or went to a few niters in the seventies, then sit back down hack me off, I pay my entrance money same as the rest but you don't see me going round throwing litter on the dance floor and invading peoples space. If people are intent to fuck my night up on occasion I have chucked a pint on top of all the talc and say "now lets see you dance on that". People who find this thread funny are probably the ones who like to chuck talc down /up excessively. Please respect other dancers and use sparingly. If you read the thread, we were not saying dont put talc down at all, we said just consider other people who may not want it thrown all over them, by just putting a bit down when you need it! Just for the record Di, no i dont have a boring life, & when i go to a venue, i dance 95% of the time on any floor, in any shoes & without talc! P.s I see you have visited my website for the icon! Casper Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 (edited) so,.... talcum powder..... nothing much, ..it can make your nite,... it can spoil it, ... it can keep a great venue open,... it can close it... it can stop injuries,... it can cause them....used sparingly then that over sticky floor becomes a ballroom,...too much , and in the wrong circumstances can cause distress and without sounding over the top....a period in hospital, or worse... Its all about awareness really and this thread brings it to light, so its not a silly or pathetic thread at all, a little humor is great so long as a bit of a message gets over... Should we use it at all ? well what else is there ? some venues ban it, probably for insurance reasons and the fact that our once a month nite causes problems for the other users on a daily basis,.... maybe?...... guess the problem is not easy to sort, 100, 200, 50 people? all with different shoes, all different weights and dance styles ? how can they all have the perfect floor, it just wont happen.... so perhaps the real answer is a little if you need it, at the side of the floor..... but consider others.....and the request of the venue promoters.. and yes it was my partner who was in distress the other day, no one to blame, just a bit of over exuberance and unawareness by some of the talc users, it caught her out i guess...she was lucky, her asthma is only mild in comparison to some, someone else may have had more acute problems ........ not so funny now eh... KTF Susan( Mrs Casper) x PS those few hours we spent at Torch Reunion, were Fantastic..... just wished we could of stayed longer. Edited October 28, 2009 by casper

I have a muscle wasting and balance disorder and if the floor is sticky then i just have to watch or hang on to Terry's arm to dance and try to keep my balance, i have leather soles and heels on all of my shoes but invariably still need a bit of talc!

Some dancefloors - despite bullsh-- assurances from their promoters - just suck. Literally. Absolutely - if talc isn't needed in the 'right footwear' how come professional ballroom etc dancers use it? (well french chalk - same stuff without the pong) That said I hardly dance nowadays as I'm fatter than ever and miraculously unfit - and rarely bring talc (as I nick a bit of what's on the floor when I actually do jump in for half a record). Too much talc as the original post is however a ridiculous affectation that ain't got a lot to do with improving the floor's characterisitics - and indeed is positively counterproductive as you'll end up arse over tit if you put any effort into your feet.
