I'm researching a story on Speed Records; I'm fortunate to have interviewed a few surviving artists from the label, including Frankie Nieves, Bobby Marin, Bobby Matos, plus Dean Rudland. Right now, I'm trying to fill in some gaps in the known discography and was hoping folks out there might shed some light on a few missing titles. 1) I have scribbled down that SP-1004 was a 7" release by the Latin Blues Band but I don't remember where I got that info from nor which songs were on the single. I've yet been unable to google this info to confirm that there ever was a Latin Blues Band single (though, intuitively, you would think there was). 2) Was there ever a SP-1001? The earliest known single seems to be The Moon People's "Land of Love" b/w "Revolt" which is SP-1002. 3) There's another gap between SP-1005 (Tony Middleton/Chuito's "Spanish Maiden") and SP-1007 (Milton Zapata's "Sweet Soul Music"), and then an even bigger one after that single all the way through SP-1012, which is Bobby Matos/Manny Roman's "Cuchi Frito Man." Anyone know of any singles that would place in there? There's the possibility it may have been a third single from Matos but that's not confirmed. Thanks in advance for any leads or info. Thanks for that; I'm not such a hardcore completionist that I've tried tracking down every Speed single, especially since I find the Dianne and Carole material to be on the weaker side of the label but I probably should keep a more open eye just to help catch any catalog items that swim through. I really cannot believe this sold for $140. But anyways... I should have specified in the original post that I'm filling gaps in the discography but much of it is known. Didn't realise that was your site...happened to check it out from a link on Modculture the other day. There is an Uptite release by Naatab 'Magic Rose' that I seem to recall not listed in your Uptite discog...I don't have a copy anymore as I kept the Fania release, but will hopefully get the release number & flip info for you as I remember who bought it off me. I also might be able to help you out with missing info from other various Latin label discogs once Johnny Beggs gets back from NY next week. Also, do you know of any other 45 releases on The Willow label other than Goody Oswaldo?

Yes, the Latin Blues Band album was filled with all kinds of double-entendres; look at the cover and they hid (not that subtly) a naked woman's body in there! Louie Ramirez (arranger and songwriter for the LBB) evidently had a saucy sense of humor since his "Ali Baba" album for Fania was the same way. Edited October 26, 2009 by O-Dub

Yup, 'tis indeed Joe Bataan, and is the exact same cut as the Fania release. I actually picked up the Naatab 'Magic Rose' on Uptite at Allentown a few years ago Michael....the Naatab Uptite release of 'Are you satisfied' was obviously well known, but it seems as though the 'Magic Rose' release on Uptite is not that well known. I managed to pick another copy from a U.K. dealer for a couple of quid not long after, but not seen another since.....seems to be as rare as the Fania one IMO. Johnny Beggs has an edit version of the Pussycat single, which is more 'user friendly' so to speak
