Shsdave Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Just been reminded by an item in sales to check out a different track by the same group. Found it on a major dealers website described as "girl group Northern soul stormer!" Clicked play to have a listen expecting something to explode out of the speakers like a dog out of the trap, instead an OKish ballad dripped weakly into my lap When did it change ? If somebody describes a record to me as a Northern Soul stormer I've always expected a meaty uptempo northen dancer. Do people out there really describe ballads as Northern stormers or is this a case of I've got a box load please buy one ?
Cheapsiderecords Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 The Triumphs - Coming To Your Rescue - Okeh - thats a stormer , that is.
Sean Hampsey Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Sandi Sheldon "You're Gonna Make Me Love You" The ultimate STORMER - Accept No Substitute! Sean
Guest Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 From the Motown catalogue...THE ISLEYS eternal 'Tell me it is just a rumour baby', the ultimate Detroit 'stormer' for my money!
Ady Croasdell Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I agree with you chaps Edward Hamilton I'm Gonna Love You though the Triumphs is the ultimate. Our unreleased George & Greer on the Goldwax Northern isn't though it's called To Me It's Storming! Bloody good track though, eh Sean?

Reg Scott Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 This is a nice 'storming' rollercoaster of a TUNE! Chuck Bridges - Don't Make Me Cry - Regards..
Ged Parker Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Often it the American sellers picking up on an adjective used by other sellers without any kind of understanding as to what it means in context. If I wanted to show then what a 'stormer' was I'd play them 'Tear Stained Face' and leave them in no doubt that a weak assed ballad just ain't worthy of the same description.
Douglas Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Eddie Parker " I'm Gone " Hurricane Katrina type stormer.
Guest aintgotit Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Eddie Parker " I'm Gone " Hurricane Katrina type stormer. i,d have to disagree and say eddie,s real stormer is love you baby. fantastic though it is, its more of a growler than a stormer imo anyway cheers

Ha Ha Don't worry John I'm on later next time Actually don't consider it to be too much of a stormer to be honest ....less I wind it up to +10 Wasn't actually asking for examples (thanks anyway) just amazed at the descriptions that dealers use ......& this was a BIG dealer in the UK. Actually does it quite a lot

Guest DeeJay Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Always equate a "stormer" as the sort of thing you jump off the balcony at Wigan to get on to the dance floor to. A real "Ball Banger" (if your'e a boy) not sure what the female equivalent is. How about The Ambers (On Verve) The Charades Key To Happiness John Leach Put That Woman Down (monsta) Frank Foster Harlem Rumble I think it has to have power, passion, speed -heart thumping(ness)!. The sort of thing that if you have a pulse and you like soul, you have to get on the dance floor. DJ

We must have been stood in the queue together, cos that is one of my abiding memories also . spooky.

Guest Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Great choice, actually my all time favourite Northern record, so superior to the likes of Frank Wilson and Jimmy Mack. Agree a quality dancer always gives me that (fu*king yes ) feeling about half way through dont know why it just does great form start to finish I love my modern crossover etc but the dealers 45 always reminds me of why I fell in love with soul music that driving energy and that fu*king yes feeling while on the floor Kieran
Douglas Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 I totally agree, stunning vocals with lyrics to compliment " You got it, a natural personality, and when you hold my hand i feel like Superman " slightly better than Do I Love You.
