I, personally like a dark venue as I think you get a better atmosphere, but now we have the health and safety nazis and bars in the dance room at most venues, it's like you're dancing in daylight.

If any promoters read this, can you give a thought to the lighting (or lack of it) as well as the sound system and dance floor please

Dont have any problem at any of our venues over lighting,its always dark.Even the civic halls let us have it as dark as we like.As for sound systems you get what you pay for,but i agree some promoters take the piss with piss poor cheap equipment.

yeh but dark is good in some ways, we cant really see how ancient we all are lol

It is often out of the promoters hands when it comes to lighting, it is often the venue owner who states how dark/light it will be.

i prefer places like the olde english in matlock, it was small, hot, dark, packed, loud and great, i sweated lots of happy hours there and met people i could only recognise in daylight by there voice, happy days, alternativly you could go back to the days when they used them purple lights that showed up anything white you were wearing, it was dandruff, white bras and knickers on show tastic

Yeah Webby - just a little light over the decks. It was great if you were a bit too out of it.

I remember some of the Birmingham Lot in there one night squatting on the dance floor (gym floor) - I asked one of them (Skippy?) what they were up to and was informed that they were "sweetie bags" PMSL.

Darker the better i say,unless you're selling records.Then of course you need light.
