Sebastian Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 According to some discographies I've seen, the "Sensational Maytals" LP was issued in 1965 by both WIRL and DOCTOR BIRD in the UK. As Wirl DBL 1003 and Doctor Bird BLM 5003. Is that correct? And if so, which came first? Thanks in advance.
Sebastian Posted October 23, 2009 Author Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) The reason I'm asking is because I have a copy of this on Wirl that I've had for quite a while. I've never put much thought into this LP and it's just been sitting here, but as I was preparing to put it on eBay I started to do some research and found out that both a UK Wirl and UK Doctor Bird pressing is supposed to exist. Does anyone know for sure? Come to think of it... perhaps the WIRL issue is from somewhere else in the West Indies? But the machine stamped matrix markings "looks UK". In any case, here is my WIRL copy, housed in a heavy carboard (jamaican?) BMN sleeve with "paste-over" front: Edited October 23, 2009 by Sebastian
Pete S Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 It would have been a Jamaican pressing in a UK sleeve I think. I had a Blues Busters LP on Doctor Bird which was like that, also Club Ska volume 2 was on Wirl but in a UK Island sleeve.

Andreas Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 (edited) I saw that lp as jamaican issue only on BMN and SOUL (except from later re-issues). this one looks to me like an UK doctor bird press in a jamaican BMN sleeve. never seen a jamaican press from that time with a stamped matrix.
