2 years ago i got a wd of muriel day for £85 from ebay... in gr8 condition and was well pleased with it..

would more people have liked it if muriel had been black??

still huge in its day!

Would have made no difference whatsoever. The reason it attracts such derision is it's complete and utter bobbins. And that's coming from a member that recently got told off by Jocko on here for defending good white pop records :g:

Ever tried these, Mark...

I bet you've had a boogie to it in the past:wicked:

I'm afraid not. Even if I had been old and english enough to actually hear it at Wigan Casino I wouldn't have danced to it.

Not a good one even for a pop record. But yet highly collectable IMO because of its relevance to the Northern Soul scene in the 70s. I'm happy with my german issue complete with the ultra rare picture sleeve

Pity it isn't sung in German, anything would be a improvement :shades:

Can't see how anyone can say Muriel day isn't a good pop record, it should have been an A side, it might have charted.

As a Northern record - it has it's place, but that place is in a dark cupboard.

I was there the first time this was played at Wigan, it was played again half an hour later, the next week everyone was talking about it and within 3 weeks it was the biggest record - people tend to forget or try to pretend we didn't play and like records like this, well we did and at the time it was alright, now it's not, no big deal.

Too true Pete, we also tend to forget or ignore the fact that BIG records played in the Casino, don't fit the bill today, and if you say you didn't dance to them, then you weren't there or couldn't dance, I danced my socks off to Muriel Day and spent a fortune buying a Page One demo back in the 70's, I still have it, it's what's called a memory and I'm not afraid to admit it, like some.

If you're referring to my comment, that's not the case. I thought it was rubbish at the time and that's nothing to do with selective memory. I enoyed my share of poppy stompers like most at the time and still have a copy of Harry Betts "Fantastic Plastic Machine" for example. Loads of people think that's a crap record too, so it's clearly not a matter of trying to look cool in hindsight.

Just because some records were huge at Wigan doesn't mean that everyone liked them. Some just preferred different pop records..

I've also collected pop records since I was about 11 years old but still don't rate "Nine times out of Ten" at all, so it seems that it is possible that someone can say it's not a good pop record. It's not a good pop record. There. Said it.
