I have only been returned to the scene since earlier this year, only to certain local soul nights, when it suddenly dawned on me that no one was clapping at certain moments of the records,so I had myself a little dance, and did some hand claps at the relevant parts of the record but nobody else did,nor is there any applause at the end of records anymore, I mean is this because sounds are so freely available cd downloads etc, must say I'm a little dissapointed as it added to the atmosphere of the evening everyone doing it in unison (apologies if this topic has been discussed before)

At the Greatstone on sat night there was copious amounts of clapping all the way through Sam Dees lonely for you when i played it also there is a lot of applauding records that have been played, i think you tend to find it happening in the smaller clubs it has not disapeared from the scene,

I love to clap...thumbup.gif

Had a friend of ours told to "stop that clapping" at an event, so we now clap even more...wicked.gif

Who says it's not considered cool now? I clap and i hear others clapping and plenty of people still applaud at the end of records. I don't know where you go Gigs but everywhere i go i hear clapping (not always the crash of Wigan clapping but people still clap) and still plenty of appluase. Plenty of applause at rare soul and RnB nights as well as oldies nights.

l agree with all that...Loved clapping in certain places to certain records and hearing others do the same...Great feeling of belonging.... thumbsup.gif

Carry on Clapping,

I thought it was wonderful, when everyone would clap together during the record, and even better at the end,A true part of the night,One that should stay with us all really,

I understand about the (now not so rare)comment,"Back in the day" when most of us were only kids,You only got to hear certain sounds once in a blue moon,So it was a thank you I think to the Dj for having the record and them also playing it,I also believed then and now that it was a "pat on the back" To the singer also,

Anyroad "Keep The Clap"

And be a happy clapper,

And I should know the times I've had clap,OOPS sorry clapped

Did they clap at The Torch??

never went but clapping to the music and applauding at the end to me is part and parcel of the scene and long may it continue

it adds to the atmosphere at venues and as been said gives one a sense of belonging thumbsup.gif

never been to a venue with no clapping, it's part of our scene, long may it continue

gogs (nearly gigs but not quite)

Nothing better than hearing a long forgotten, underplayed, mega rare ,or just a common fave tune, then showing your appreciation to the DJ by clapping.Must be great for the DJ to hear it also.Would be a sad day if it stopped.

Was at the 1st Anniversary at the Grosvenor Rooms Sutton in Ashfield last Saturday...plenty of appreciation there for the DJ's, in fact after a brilliant set, one got the nearest thing I've seen to a standing ovation.... great atmosphere thumbup.gif

Was at prestatyn, in the big room one hour before Chucks triamphant return. the floor was buzzin and peeps were gettin into some good oldies when Snowy (I think) played the Outsiders- lonely man. I was talking but listening and waiting for the great second instramental bit with the 3 second break. Seeing as everyone on the floor was getting into it I thought they all must be thinking the same as me, then it came the the sudden break!

2 - 3 - 4!!!!!

Just me the prize pr*ck doing the shout on my own in a room of 100's getting looks that would melt sand. Fu*kin typical wanker.gif

John

I'd have been there with you mate ! How can people resist that one !!!

I ALWAYS clap good records...lets face it...some deserve to be clapped...don't think it's retro or uncool...just means you appreciate the DJs choice good.gif

PS. I don't clap during records as i'm not old enough to know/care when the right time is...plus i'd look like a tit if I got it wrong

if its a beat ballad best to clap loudly after every one just to wake up the crowd and tell them to hit the dancefloor again whistling

Always plenty of clapping action at the venues I go to

Ok, maybe not so much during the records, but that is because the venues I frequent aren't the ones that favour traditional clapping northern.

That said, I do clap to records while I am dancing. But only because I feel moved to, not because the 'past' dictates that I should.

My favorite clap off is during 'Ever Again'......think its a great tradition on the scene that should carry on as as Joan has said some of the newer sounds be they crossover or obscure 60's are so good they demand a good heartfelt clap whilst dancing good.gif

My humble opinion is that it is a bit dated like instrumentals ,barbiturates in the morning, ford escorts, the smell of brut , aztec bars , smoking a pack of cigarettes all night ,soul patches and djs incoherantly babbling on with crap on the mike

I still clap occasionaly when nobody is looking shhh.gif

Good for you. I've always clapped after a favourite record to show my appreciation and haven't actually seen the rule book on the do's and don'ts of the

etiquette of clapping. Is it new?

frankly I don't give a clap!!! wicked.gif

I clap at the end and sometimes during a good record! And I've not noticed people not clapping! Alive and well at the places I end up.....
