Cheapsiderecords Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) .... at the Toronto Record Show. I was flicking thorugh a box and this bloke asked me if I new Eric Mercury? Yes, says I - Lonely Girl on Sac. Well, he is stood over there. I spent the next hour trying to find a 45 by him to get it signed and finally turned up a Atlantic thing from 83 he did with Roberta Flack. Had a lovely chat with him about records, UK Soul fans, Edwin Starr etc, what a nice guy. I also finally managed to track down a copy of The Tempests album - $30 - and a couple of bits: Mood Mosaic, David and the Giants - Superlove, EG Smith, a couple of Phil LA promo's and a great R&B thing by Bobby Mitchell that was a pleasant surprise when I Popsiked it. All in all a nice way to spend a day. Edited October 19, 2009 by newer

Jumpinjoan Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 WOW!! How cool is that? Out of curiosity - what was he doing there? Does he live near by? Was it an organised personal appearance? I just find things like this really interesting.

Lots of times people are excited that you remember their early material but if people had long careers, etc. they are annoyed if you really know nothing about their careers except one random record.

Cheapsiderecords Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) Joan, as Ian says I believe he lives in Toronto now. I did ask him about Lonely Girl and also the nice 45 he had on Columbia. Boba, he seemed genuinely pleased to talk about all his stuff and didnt seem to upset about the value of the Sac 45, which, of course I jokingly asked him if he had any hanging about. He was there with a guy who has taken over a shop in Toronto called Books Plus on the Danforth. It used to be run by a guy from London,UK and I have got a couple of Oriole things and UK Reggae 45's from there in the past. He did mention the 45 I got signed was done JUST before the split from Atlantic but he wouldnt expand on it!! Edited October 19, 2009 by newer
