Reg Scott Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Hello Peolpe, Just been on to relist a couple of bits on Ebay which is usually a very quick process. However, this time I got a new screen that only allows me to relist if I list at £0.00 p&p! This is just blackmail and another example how a seller, even an occasional one as in my case, are being stiffed. I don't know what you think but this is just a piss take to me. I'd try and cancel them and then make a new listing to see if I can get round it but they will charge me another listing fee! This is bad enough for me, with only a few items, but for anybody trying to make an income on Ebay listing numerous items this must be a total bastard. The Bay is trully becoming the EvilBay. Robbing shites Let me know if you've had the same experience. Thanks...
Pete S Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 i HAD 6 REGGAE RECORDS END ON SATURDAY, 5 OF THEM WERE RUINED AND WON BY A FAKE BIDDER, A FAKE BIDDER WHO RUINED A TOTAL OF OVER 60 AUCTIONS IN ONE DAY, I'VE LOST COUNT OF THE AMOUNT OF TIMES THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO EBAY BUT STILL THEY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT.

This is by no means the perfect way to block fake bidders, as it also might block genuine bidders that have just started out on eBay, but the following has helped me to get rid of most of the fake bids for my reggae items on eBay: In your "My eBay" go to the Account tab. Then click Site preferences in the left column. Scroll down to and click on Buyer requirements. Then click Edit. Then make these (or similar) adjustments under Block buyers who: Have received 2 Unpaid Item strike(s) within 1 Month(s). Have 1 Policy Violation report(s) within 1 Month(s). Have a feedback score of -1 or lower Are currently winning or have bought 1 of my items in the last 10 days (only apply this block to buyers who have a feedback score of 1 or lower) Good luck! You know what though benji, I'm sure I already have these requirements ticked - also, three people on my blocked bidders list have got through recently - how the hell does that happen!

OK, that's strange! Works alright for me. Perhaps you have to make the changes on both the .co.uk and .com sites? I don't know. I'm Sebastian by the way, not Benji.

I'm Sebastian by the way, not Benji. Anyone had the discomfort of receiving emails from 'auction winners' who apparently have not received their goods after 2 days citing 'if it doesn't come tomorrow, we are going on Soul Source to complain'? The record business...you can keep it! Edited October 19, 2009 by The Golden 101
Mach Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 also i dont like the fact , that when you block someone, they are still able to send you messages,( is this normal)? , because alf of the tawts are loopy anyway, thats why you block em..in the first place..

phatspinner Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Obviously the free p&p scam has started today and any items now listed will need to have free p&p. what's the best way round this ? I've changed my postage to second class non-recorded (great when postage strike due I know !) but strike aside can I then charge my normal rate for 1st class recorded ? Should I specfy on invoice or listing that first class post will come at a cost ? And recorded is more f0r seller's benefit so I guess as a seller I will have to bear that cost and the p & p unless I can use my old rates which covered these costs. Or should I increase all my prices to incorporate ? I'm puzzed as to what to do to say the least. Most of my items are cheap buy it nows so if I'm not careful I will be selling for next to nothing ! What are others doing ?

45cellar Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I tried Recently another Auction Site, Free, Unfortunately Too Small At The Moment. Regarding The Cheaper Items Using Ebay, Now A Nightmare To List & No Doubt Will Dissappear. Plus I Suspect All The Fun Of Buying Blind etc, Sadly.
Mach Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 yep, me too., just relisted 15, and now ,.. just transfered the post & packing fee onto the record price,... ,..wonder what they,ll come up with next..
kevinsoulman Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 FREE POSTAGE IS AVAILABLE AS FIRST OPTION WHICH WILL OBVIOUSLY BE POSTED IN A PAPER BAG WITH NO STIFFENERS NOW IF YOU WANT THE RECORD TO GET TO YOU IN A PLAYABLE STATE P&P IS XXXX AMOUNT THATS WHAT I WOULD PUT KEV
Reg Scott Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 yep, me too., just relisted 15, and now ,.. just transfered the post & packing fee onto the record price,... ,..wonder what they,ll come up with next.. It's a very worrying move from Ebay. They maintain this is for the benefit of the buyer.. However, the reality is the only winner, again, is Ebay as people pass on their postage to the item price they get higher listing/finish fees! Ebay are becoming a dangerous, almost monopoly, marketplace. You could, as Kev says, put packaging as an added extra but I don't think that would last 2 minutes as the bidder will complain and Ebay will insist, as they now do, it is the sellers responsibility to ensure safe arrival. I really hope a viable alternative appears in the online auction market. Regards..
Geordiejohnson Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 We need to find a site that we can use without all this B.S all its going to do is push the prices up & push people to other sites who want our business...come back soulbid Ebay are that big they dont give a twopenny toss anyway see below their turnover & profit from times online. Profits at eBay increased by 28 per cent in the first quarter as turnover at the online auction company reached $1 billion for the first time. The company said it traded more than $10 billion worth of goods, earning net profits of $256.3 million. That compared to $200 million in the same three-month period a year earlier. In 3 months!!!!!! disgusting (unless its in my pocket ) MMM i do note Ebay has a strong presence on here only joking Mike..but joking aside why not promote an auction site on here that would be more in tune with what the soul sourcers want and help it grow...many a site has tried and failed due to lack of exposure...cmon give one a leg up Geeoooooordie
barney Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 wonder how many dealers declare their income from sales to the IRS
45cellar Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) I have tried >>> www.record-dealer.com <<< for selling in the past. I think Martin is on here >>> LINK to Welcome Page <<< Edited October 20, 2009 by 45cellar
Pete S Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I'm confused now, I just went to put something on ebay and it's exactly the same as it always is, nothing about free postage?
Guest john s Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I'm confused now, I just went to put something on ebay and it's exactly the same as it always is, nothing about free postage? What was it ? It's only music, films and books that have free postage required now.
Pete S Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 What was it ? It's only music, films and books that have free postage required now. A record..
Eamesy Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 A record.. I just tried listing a few bits with £2.99 start & got done for the free P&P - does start price make a difference?? Alan
Sebastian Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Here's their news announcement about this: https://pages.ebay.co.uk/sell/sellerupdate/freeshipping.html Might be something in there that answers it.
funkyfeet Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) Ebay just wants to get rid of the little man, they reckon we are too much trouble with the complaints they receive about none delivery overcharging on P&P etc. What they forget it was the small fry that made their business, but they only want power sellers on there now, as it makes life easier for them. I use to list loads of pop 45's for 99p no point in doing that now as it costs me 90p to post out 1st class + the cost of the mailer, and then add fees from ebay+paypal, I would now be selling them at a loss. The records are only worth 99p but if you sold enough of them it covered the cost of your better items. Ebay say's it's to help buys get more sales????, in my view it reduces the amount of items available as 1000's of items will not be worth listing, so now I'll have trouble finding cheap pop records for my customers, that I haven't got in stock. I've noticed some sellers are listing the P&P in the description, but you'll only need one buyer to complain to ebay and they will pull your listings, I guess it's a case of watch this space. Sleeps45 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 EVIL BAY IS GETTING MIGHTY GREEDY THESE DAYS..I ON THE OTHER HAND,FROM THE BUYERS PERSPECTIVE EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS AS WELL..EBAY ACCEPTS ONLY PAYPAL THESE DAYS NO M/O....AND PAYPAL ROBS YOU !! I BOUGHT A RECORD ON EBAY ABOUT 5 WEEKS AGO..THE SELLER CONFIRMED HE SHIPPED MY PACKAGE 4 DAYS AFTER I WON IT....2 WEEKS LATER AND NO PACKAGE....HE NEVER REPLIED TO MY EMAILS I TRIED TO STOP PAYMENT "THROUGH PAYPAL" AND P/P JUST KEPT LINKING ME BACK TO EBAY..I OPENED A DISPUTE WITH EBAY..THEY GAVE THE SELLER UNTIL OCT.20TH TO REPLY...NO REPLY,NO REPLY..AND ON THE 19TH I GET MY RECORD !! GO FIGURE......BY THEN I DIDNT EVEN WANT THE RECORD NO MORE !! EBAYS MAKING IT REAL HARD FOR ALL OF US THESE DAYS.....AS LONG AS IT BENEFITS THEM THEYRE HAPPY !!!!! I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THEIR VALUED CUSTOMERS AND QUIT LEAVING US ON THE BACK BURNER !!
Mick Holdsworth Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I've noticed some sellers are listing the P&P in the description, but you'll only need one buyer to complain to ebay and they will pull your listings, I guess it's a case of watch this space. I noticed that too - some one was actually listing a 1p Freepost record and stating postage on top in the description - now that could backfire on him. Another thing I've seen is "freight" instead of "Free Post" as the method - (again seller has just stated post on top in description). I think this will have a few loopholes / glitches for a while, but eBay will probably tighten it up and throttle us soon enough. Cheers Mick Holdsworth
45cellar Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) It's Going The Same Way As Some Car Boots, Where Every Stall Is A Virtual Small Business As Opposed To Small One Off Private Sellers, Who Just Want To Pass There Stuff On For Cash Before They Consider The Tip. Many Rare Records Could Be Lost Forever This Way. The Seller Thinking That They're Next To Worthless, Won't Be Prepared To Try Them For A Dollar On Ebay First, Due To The Free Postage Sting In The Tail. Edited October 20, 2009 by 45cellar
Geordiejohnson Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 IVE PUT IN MY DESCRIPTION THAT IVE HAD TO UP THE STARTING PRICE LETS SEE WHAT BECOMES OF THAT. DUE TO YEARS OF SUFFERING WITH THE P OFFICE, I NOW SEND VIA APC PARCEL NETWORK AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM ITS RECORDED AND NEVER HAD ANY DAMAGES BUT THIS COSTS £3.49 PACKAGE AND SUNDRIES IS ABOUT 70P - £1 DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF PACKAGING YOU USE I ONLY THEN EVER CHARGED £2.99 SO NOT TO OFFEND...BUT STILL GOT PEOPLE HUFFING SAYING I WAS RIPPING THEM OFF???? eBAY WANTS MORE..CANT GET A FEE OFF POSTAGE, SO THEY THINK MAKE IT £O AND THE SELLER UPS HIS STARTING COST AND HEY HO ONLY ONE WINNER EBAY MAKE MORE... I THINK MOST PEOPLE WILL STOP LISTING AS THE VALUE OF THE GOODS WONT WARRANT FREE POSTING. cMON LETS BOYCOTT THE WHOLE SHIT AND SHABANG STOP SELLING AND STOP BUYING THEN THE ONLY LOSER IS EBAY...LETS GET BEHIND ANOTHER AUCTION HOUSE WHO VALUES OUR BUSINESS GEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORDIE
Bigsoulman Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I noticed on the news today that profits are down 29% and they are on a downward slope just now, serves the greedy bastards right
funkyfeet Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 And how many don't declare their losses.........it works both ways ....you can claim tax relief on other income for whatever loss you make if you include record dealing as part as your sole trader tax status or as a business. Stick to riding Scooters Barney and leave the thinking to the grown ups there's a good lad! Most/If not all dealers are registered as a business on ebay/paypal so it's easy for the Tax man, you can't hide your sales.
Crumb Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Just noticed a couple of things listed under collectables. Not sure if this is so the seller can charge for postage or if there's always been a few records listed like this. Either way it allows you to charge, might be a good idea for cheap stuff.
