KevH Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Hi. In the same vein as the Susan Maughan thread, which do you prefer?. Keanya Collins - "Barnabus Collins, love bandit" or Patti & Lovelites- "Love bandit"?.Back in the day ,much preferred KC,nowadays P& LL.
Guest Gogs Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Patti And The Lovelites - Love Bandit - Cotillion - patti's version for me
Reg Scott Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Definitely Patti And The Lovelites for me and always has been. Great record as far as the price/quality ratio goes! Regards...
Maxwell Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Only one version, Keanya Collins the atmospheric intro that had me legging it on the dancefloor as soon as it started, the real sexy way she sings Barnabus Collins your a Love Bandit Patti dunt come near with hey boy your a love bandit
Rich B Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I'm with Maxwell, Keanya definitely does it for me - looks good, sounds good and by golly it makes you feel good! That said I love Patti's (and the Lovelites of course) stuff. I'm glad it's not either or. best, RB.

Guest Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) Patti's version by far sold my copy back on me wants!!! Nice soulful version by PATTI, but hey KENYA COLLINS - a true classic, unique in sound and very atmosphereic as somebody has mentioned! Edited October 15, 2009 by chorleysoul
Shinehead Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Patti for me, the Lovlites are a great fave of mine much underated . The Collins version is also very worthy too.
paup-ine Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Nice version by Patti, but Keanya pins it for me P
jocko Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Ahh now we are getting the hang of it, at least these are both soul records.!!! Good question though. Sultry Patti vs Atmospheric Kenya need to listen to them both tonight, assuming they are in Refosoul as I do not think I own either!
purist Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Coincidence ! Only last week I dug out KC to play as a hardly-ever-heard-oldie, and I'm not the only one who thought it sounded fantastic loud in a venue. For those too young to remember, not exactly sure of the year, maybe 1974/73? but anyway, this was such a MONSTER record it's hard to imagine today. Of course nothing ever stayed that hot for that long, but I can clearly remember people literally running for the floor, vaulting tables, etc, as that opening high pitched sound starts the tune. And the label, surely one of the nicest looking labels ever. Was it the Grapevine press that consigned it to the too-nice-to-dump-so-I'll-put-it-in-the-box-under-the-bed graveyard? I'll bet I've not heard it in a club half a dozen times in the last 30 years, but then I'm not a regular at most oldies only events. More tea Vicar ? No, but more forgotten Oldies like this please ! (KC gets my vote)
Guest JSF Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Perhaps it's common knowledge, but could someone confirm (or deny) the the Barnabus Collins in question was inspired by a vampire character in the horror show Dark Shadows? My vote goes by a whisker to KC - if only because it was probably the first proper Northern Soul record I bought (along with Creation - I got the fever).
