kimbo Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 What has happened to thread about my poems with such nice people? Can't find it. It will be in here somewhere Swish. I can tell you your (tears to my eyes half feeling so proud to belong to such a cool scene and half having lived those words) poem hangs on my wall in amongst the black and white photos of just a few of my hero's. It has even more meaning I think these days to old school niter goers, with as Darcy boy says in his thread "there are 2 scenes now a million miles apart." Get that book published. Regards and take it easy Kimbo.

kimbo Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Thank you Kimbo. Steve , the red cortina episode is in the book, you take care bud. Hi Swish, keep me informed on the book, have a good reunion(I just missed the torch but found the scene whist it was still underground and with the chacacters and its way of life). I wouldn't swap that. The music is still as good in all its forms but a lot of people seem squeeky clean and the spirit of the scene diluted. Hope you know what I mean, guess I'm glad to be old guard and hang with the aces with eyes like lazers. Best Kimbo.

I have found another poem. This was written in APRIL 1975 It's about THE LANTERN in MARKET HARBOROUGH. WHEN ALL THE DIVS WERE PISSED IN SCARBOROUGH WE WERE SMASHED AT MARKET HARBOROUGH WHEN THEY WALKED DOWN THE FRONT IN THEIR PARKA COATS CAP AFTER CAP SLIPPED DOWN OUR THROATS WHILE THEY WERE IN THE SEA FLIPPING AND A FLAPPING THROUGH EVERY SOUND WE WERE CLAPPING WHEN THEY SLEPT OFF THEIR DRINK , TUCKED UP IN THEIR BEDS YOU CAN BET YOUR BOTTOM DOLLAR WE WERE SMASHED OUT OF OUR HEADS I SUPPOSE THEY STILL REMEMBER THE SEA, AND THE PIERS, BUT ME? I LONG AGO LOST COUNT OF THE GREEN AND CLEARS
Guest Swish Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I read this now, some 34 years since it was written and 38 years later than the club existed. I realise it's full of arrogance all the way through. There would be plenty of times to come when I also got pissed at Scarborough. But it's no good looking at it now and thinking "that's a bit unfair, or whatever" I wrote about how I felt at the time and tried to to put it it how it was. So crap poem, arrogant or not. It's the way it was. The Lantern seems to be a nighter that's hardly ever mentioned, it isn't as famous as THE wheel, and Torch, and all the rest. But it was some place believe me. I met some great people there, there's a lot to mention and I have remembered all the people I can in my book. I especially want to say thanks to WACKER (never knew his real name), because he was the youngster (16) in the queue who first befriended me. We became great friends. Also this was the first place I heard THE NEXT IN LINE on STATESIDE LABEL. I'll explain. The only place that played NEXT IN LINE was THE MECCA and Ian Levine. That was it, nowhere else had it. It was on Laurie label. They played it one night at The Lantern AFTER I had got a lift from the Mecca. I couldn't believe it! I ran up to DJ stand and even more couldn't believe it when I saw they had it on Stateside label! I collected Stateside at the time. I begged and pleaded with Geoff and Norman to sell me it. I don't remember what I paid, but it was something like a weeks wages and similar in records I had in my box. In it's short time it was some club!

I LONG AGO LOST COUNT OF THE GREEN AND CLEARS Swish Its not a crap arrogant poem & I bet most of us can relate to aspects of it from our youth. My youth was little after yours but I still had the attitude & always thought MY way was the right way & couldnt get my head round the "NORMAL" people at work wantin to go out, get pissed, fight, cop off at the end of the night (2am for them divs ) & get a kebab on the way home. Now I just accept everyone for what they are, who they are & how they chose to live their lives - just like they now accept me & my "WEIRD" ways Your poem is a perfect insight into your youth & you dont need to apologise for what you were feeling 30+ years ago Brilliant - keep em coming please ATB Ali x
