Kinnel , I tried to get him for you Paul , he only lives a few miles from me . Thought Kev would change his mind if anyone could. Wonder if he'll do his famous Smartie party trick :shhh:

Oh yes, he was my first hero, the records he used to have and indeed play were quite something. He was one of the very first DJ's to start exploiting the by now American imports that started to surface. I remember as a very young teenager going into his shop it was called THE HOUSE OF SOUNDS twas in New St Burton on Trent.I used to go in on a saturday morning with me pocket money to buy my soul records.Iv'e often thought and indeed said to people i wished i had then the knowlege i have now, i bet lots of folks walked out of that shop and left something that now would be a much sort after item.Something back in those days that i could'nt understand was at 9.30 am when i would frequent he used to have the music up full volume and he would be going mental, i used to think what the f cks he been drinking it's a bit early for the pubs to be open, little did i know at that time just what was helping him to be mad.I still admire him and have the greatest respect for what he did (and eat) kind regards Gilly and Nicola

Alan Day was the business.

He was a blocker, a brilliant DJ, a nighter boy. through and through. I knew him well and he knew me well.

Re met him at Central (Leeds)l revival some 10 years ago.

Once was in his car getting chased by a police car, he left them for dead.

No joke.

His charisma was outstanding, his sounds were outstanding.

I was proud to be by his side.

At 76 club when we worked together now and again we played sounds that blew their minds.

And at Museum Hall of Soul in Selby.

Can't wait to see him.

Another piece of the Torch Reunion " jigsaw " falls into place , with Alan coming along on the 24th .

Following a phone call this morning , I hope to be able to complete the puzzle before the day , with a couple of names associated with The

Torch .

Watch this space as they say ......

He was on good form, here's him doing his stuff on the stage, I know it's a "talcummy" photo

(you need to take 'em early at a NS venue) hope he's as good this year...........................

I well remember the very early 70s and the half dozen or more regular names, Alan Day, Keith Minshull, Martyn Ellis, Colin Curtis, Ian Levine, Blue Max, Pep etc etc. When one had to pull out all the stops to travel and hear/see. Those so tantalising Blues & Soul ads with --- hear sounds like, Bok to Bach, The Shalimars, Moses Smith, Jerry Cook etc etc.

We worshipped them as GODS

With the exception of three of those names - Pep , Skewesy and IL - , those Gods will be part of the 2010 Torch Reunion .......

On the subject of Martyn...............coming back from Leeds Central in Martyns old Vauxhall Viva,I was driving because Martyn was slightly wasted, got to a set of traffic lights on the outskirts of Oldham, the lights changed to green, went to pull away and the gear lever came away in my hand."You've broken my car you've broken my car"full on tantrum-----------me,.......Nah mate, slammed the gear stick back in the hole, selected a gear, pulled away...........he muttered all the way back to M/cr that I'd broken his car...........I think it cost him 50 quid.

Dont get me started, Chemists, car chases, a fridge that contained only one thing

a canister of mandies, being ripped off etc etc etc.

Alan did various gigs after The Torch and The Cats , but due to certain circumstances in his life , he has chosen to keep himself to himself in the following years , and DJing at selected / chosen events .

He came and did The Torch Reunion for us last October , at which he did a blinding spot . He will be back again at he 2010 Torch Reunion .

He is in fairly good health , and we speak regularly , the last time being this morning .

Don´t know if i have mentioned this before? but if any one remebers Alan Day properly he used to look at his best very undernourishedyes.gif at the Wax machine in Gloucester we put a pair of sunglasses on a mop and after that it was called Alan!!

Steve

I´m sure Kev Draper copied the undernourished looklaugh.gif how is he by the way?

I got an email from Kev a while ago Steve : the first contact between us for about 32 years .

From what I could gather , everything is good for him .

One of the traits of getting old is that I can remember something from I was 5 years old, but not what happened

a week ago. Remind me, is it you Paul or Malc organising the re-union this year ??? Sorry I'll go and sit in the corner

now yes.gif

now

Jez is the man behind the wheel this year Chris , with Paul and myself on board as " advisors " .

The 2010 Torch Reunion sold out in less than a month after being advertised .
