Posted October 6, 200915 yr was another thread was discusing the price of a mainland euro 45 release as often happens seemd the value was not really rock solid got me thinking and was just wondering what are the rock solid mainland euro mvps (most valuable errrr... platters ) you know as in proven rock solid big money items any nominations for such a list ?
October 6, 200915 yr Few come to mind immediately that always sell for big money Lenny Curtis - Spanish HIT John St John - German Ariola/Italien whatever Seven Souls - French EP (forgot label) Willie Hutch - French RCA plus the german RCA test press of Judy Freeman featuring the ext. take of "hold on" which never comes for sale (Who owns it now?) but would certainly fetch loads...
October 6, 200915 yr Author reminds me got some background studio info on Judy Freeman Blackrock that need to get up will do in next week or so tammi lynn french atco ep springs to mind mid 3 figure range ? is there enough high 3 fig/4 fig 45s to make such a list exclusive to them or should we include mid 3 fig ones in this mvp list?

I don't think there are any really high 3 fig or even 4 fig mainland Euro releases. The most expensive one (400-450) I know of is John St John because it couples both of Chapter 5 UK 45s and is therefore some sort of value-for-money . Willie Hutch on French RCA ("Love runs out"/"The duck") could fetch more for sure. But I haven't seen one for sale in public, only know of one copy that changed hands in a private deal for 300.

Steve I agree with you. When I started collecting german 45s again I thought I had owned, seen or at least heard of most worthwhile releases before, yet I find german releases new to almost every week.

I think the most expensive is Billy Hawks Oh Baby which came out on French Stateside. This is a massive mod sound, and France is the only place it originally came out on 45. I think there are several people willing to pay close to four figures on this. However I'm pretty sure the only times copies have turned up in recent years is when dealers who haven't known what it is have sold it cheaply.

So definitely a "mid-3 figures" sound at least.
October 7, 200915 yr Not saying it's a mega bucks item, but i was quite taken with the Bobby Williams "Only Got Myself To Blame" on Derby that I saw on ebay last week or the week before. Didn't fetch much money mind. other suggestions - The Jackie Edwards duet e.p. seems to be collectible, not high 3 figures but seen up to 300, which seems to be the cut off point for most euro rarities, all but the odd couple. Major Lance e.p. the only way to own "Think Nothing About It" on a 7" (unless you happen to have the missing Okeh number, anybody ever seen one, cause I dont think it exists) several euro motown releases have northern tracks that are only available on 7" on those actual releases. the currently popular Edwin Starr, for example.
October 8, 200915 yr What about Gloria Scott "That's What You Say" on French 45? Not a lot of people seem to know about it, amazing track... Err, I guess that rules it out of the rock solid Euro rarities, then...
