Jem Britttin Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Hi, could someone help me out with a price on a minter please? Thanks in advance Would have thought £80.00 to £100 for a genuine original .....didnt this have a quite authentique boot done?
wolfie66 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Cheers for the prices Jem - and for sowing the seeds of doubt Any more info on the boot?
Jem Britttin Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 (edited) Cheers for the prices Jem - and for sowing the seeds of doubt Any more info on the boot? Sorry mate but you cant be too careful , from what i remember there was a boot done with a poor looking maroon label sound quality poor and different b side and also pretty sure there was one with a similar green label but lettering was wrong ...my original is dark green gold lettering .....but you cant have it Edited October 5, 2009 by Jem Brittin
Modernsoulsucks Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Cheers for the prices Jem - and for sowing the seeds of doubt Any more info on the boot? The orig should have scratched in 205-1726, then something that looks like "COS" [with a fancy "C"] scratched in, then a small stamp Nashville Matrix [least I think it's matrix: looks like Matria] and then 75 scratched in. Think Nashville Matrix is most important thing to have. There is a green look-alike and a kinda red/purple boot too ROD
wolfie66 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Cheers lads, ta very much for the info - will have a dig out first and check so keep fingers crossed. Remember it's maroony with 'Baby Baby' on flip, apart from that we'll see .........and Jem, keeping that lovely green one to yourself is just selfish

The maroon one which has Deesu in a smaller font is, I understand, a boot although it appears to have the right numbers etc. scratched in the deadwax. (I know cos I've been told my maroon one is a boot ) According to JM's guide, the original is dark green but there's also a very good counterfeit same colour. (What's the difference between a boot and a counterfeit? ) Just be very careful and if in doubt get a scan and seek advice from one of the experts on here!
wolfie66 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Morten Harket Stubbsy!!! Does that mean that ALL maroon issues are boots?
Reg Scott Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 According to JM's guide, the original is dark green but there's also a very good counterfeit same colour. (What's the difference between a boot and a counterfeit? ) Just be very careful and if in doubt get a scan and seek advice from one of the experts on here! The maroon boot is easy to spot cause the original is green ! The counterfeit green copy is out there it has silver letters (original is gold) and doesn't have the nashville matrix (the original does have a nashville matrix) The difference between a boot and a counterfeit is the boot is made for financial gain but does not / will not confuse the buyer when compared with an original. A counterfeit is made too fool/defraud the buyer into believing the record is an original and seeks to gain maximum financial reward. Hope that's clearish. Regards
wolfie66 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Thanks clearvinyl - clear, but gutting. I really must get me one of those Manship guides
Reg Scott Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Thanks clearvinyl - clear, but gutting. I really must get me one of those Manship guides I don't think this is in JM's guide, I might be wrong (anyone?), so even JM's Guide has the odd hole. Usually though, it's not far off and if combined with the learned people on here most questions seem to get an answer. It's a big bad world out there wolfie mate and we need to help each other to learn, progress and especially not get ripped off! All the best..
wolfie66 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 That's right mate - soooooooooooo glad I asked on here first before trying to sell it. Unfortnately the more I find out, the more I realise I've a box full of feckin' boots PS - Anybody wanna buy a Maurice Williams on Deesu?
Ernie Andrews Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Yes Ill buy it So I can put it next to my nice nashville stamped original and educate a few people around here about why you shouldnt Dj with boots / Counterfeits.
wolfie66 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 You're on Toad - though I'd prefer a straight swap
Steve L Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Watched a maroon one go for £55 on ebay last week (seller was Craig Moerer) Strange Wouldnt have thought he'd knowingly sell a boot as an orig?
Epic Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Yes Ill buy it So I can put it next to my nice nashville stamped original and educate a few people around here about why you shouldnt Dj with boots / Counterfeits. In my opinion (& it's not a humble one this time) Maurice Williams is quite simply the greatest record ever played on the Northern Soul scene.

It is in JM's latest US record guide, not the one on boots. It's one of those with pictures of the boot/original at the back but on the page where the record is listed the reference to the pics is actually under the wrong record!
Guest miff Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 This is the boot P So when was this booted ? I ask cos a mate of mine paid good money for one of these, the same as your scan as an original from Cleethorpes Pier around 1975 ish and it wasn't new it was only VG+ then

I ask cos a mate of mine paid good money for one of these, the same as your scan as an original from Cleethorpes Pier around 1975 ish and it wasn't new it was only VG+ then It was booted around 1975ish, cause I bought one off the lists of pressings/boots that were at the back pages of Black Echoes (Colin Bee etc)

Soulsider Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 This is the boot P Here is the other boot from around 1976 - £1 from Selectadisc. As stated- Green Label+Silver Writing One day I'll get myself a real one
