Anoraks Corner Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Condition Red sounds like some bloke on an organ in a workingmens club
Daz Mc Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 (edited) Absolutely! Loved `Ton of Dynamite` since I first heard it at Blackpool Mecca & it still sends the shivers up the back of my neck. Not many instrumentals do it for me these days really, especially some of the afore mentioned Mecca disco type sounds. Although at the time I watched those perfectly poised, elegant, dancers, shuffle around the dance-floor to some of those now very dated sounds. I stood at the edge of the dance-floor with my gob open I never did managed to look like them, I'm far too common. Ditto , FRANKIE CROCKER does it everytime for me , gotta be my all time fave instrumental , also as Flynny said , CONDITION RED , still have a taste for that too. Edited October 8, 2009 by daz mc
Guest Jimmy Scriv Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Soul Improvisations - Van McCoy for me still like hearing it. Another one which never gets played which reminds of Tony Jebb's days at Blackpool Mecca - 30 60 90 - Willie Mitchell
Manfromsoul45s Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 A few come to mind......Cochise- Paul Humphrey, Green door-Wynder K. Frogg, Witchunt-Dezro orchestra......OK in their day....but embarrassingly cringeworthy in wilxyworld nowadays What a fantastically crusty set of instro's..enough to make ya milk curdle..
Steve L Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Still love Sidras Theme and one I've come across in recent years The Dreams - Charge is pretty good
paup-ine Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Temptation Walk Always loved that, and always a sucker for Call Me P

Guest sarahleen Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 (edited) Used to love - soulful strings - burning spear. Not sure how or where it would fit in today though Edited October 9, 2009 by sarahleen

Bitchdj Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 although instrumentals aren't everyones cup of tea, mine included,i have to admit that the following do sound as good today as they ever did,and still carry a large degree of potency when played loud.... exus trek-luther ingram bubblegum breakthrough AND afternoon of the rhino-mike post coalition thumb a ride-earl wright bok to bach-fathers angels all fabulous pieces of music in their own right imho and a couple i play at home, both on toddlin town.. the dud-toddlin town sounds & they all came back-scott bros. orchestra i also absolutely love walk in the night-jnr walker.. although not entirely an instrumental...
BrianB Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I agree that some sound dated and just don't do it anymore. However I think that The Champion, Sliced Tomatoes, Six O Clock/Supertime and All Turned On really have stood the test of time. I haven't heard ATO at a venue since around 72!

Spacehopper Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 what about the joker...dont hear it now but still love it and the original is still bloody expensive !...and thats not that all night band wigan joker shit !... remember my dad had little quennie early 70s and i use to plat it aged about 5 long before id heard of northern...sliced toms still great and theres a REALLY bad cover of that and possibly the worst instrumental cover is ive got something good on soul galore i cant imagine it ever got played out down here in south west still hear hank jacobs ..awesome !....and fortune teller version is gettin spins...one ive started playing is fast steppin/flame n king bad...wicked ! nothing wrong with a good proper instrumental as opposed to a backing track with the vocals left out...if ya know what i mean dean
Wrongcrowd Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) Just got around to checking this thread, whlist listening to K-Jee by The Nite-Liters...absolutely awesome instrumental that still sounds as fresh to me today as when I first heard it. So different from most other instrumental tracks played back in the day....Whoever the DJ was that had the insight to play something so left-field for the day deserves much respect... Torch play I believe... and probably a new release at the time too... Edited October 19, 2009 by Wrongcrowd
Russ Vickers Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I genuinely still like Spring Rain - Sylveti............this would take the roof of venues in the 7ts & i have fond memories of dancing to this back then. https://sylveti - Spring Rain -
Guest eddiep Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Always has and always will hit the spot for me. Cant believe this classic hasn't been mentioned yet! (Appologies if it has btw and i've missed it).
Wrongcrowd Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 71 l believe....And get played on Saturday Night Fever as well?? '71, right so pretty much a new release spin at the Torch then....amazing how the scene has move on and away from contemporary music... MFSB's version was a pretty good stab at a masterpiece, and showed how fresh K-Jee sounded quite a few years on, though it finishes quite a distant third IMO after the Nite-Liters and New Birth..
macca Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I loved them and still love them. Admittedly there have been some clunkers over the years but the sheer exhilaration one felt when dancing to stuff like My Little Girl, Cigarette Ashes, My Sugar Baby, Double Cookin' when we were sprogs is something I'd never trade, not in a million years.
