Ady Croasdell Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 If anyone has either of these could they do me a copy or put it up in refo-soul, both sides would be good. Ta Ady
Anoraks Corner Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 The Charley Wynn on Jim Gem has an awesome Northern side to it - 'Action time'...harmonies, brass and key changes reminiscent of a cross between 'Jeanette' meets 'Man Oh Man' in places! Would sound great at a nighter for sure! (The flip, 'Its you I love' is a Deep Soul ballad.)
Ady Croasdell Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 Cheers dave, where can I hear it? Ask your deep collectors if they've heard of a Jimmy Jules 45 on the label. Still haven't sent that acetate, it got buried, will send it when it emerges. ta Ady
Docfish Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hi Ady, I have both, I will do MP3 files later today and post them on refo soul Lars
Ady Croasdell Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 Thanks Lars, i had a good talk with jimmy Jules and it'll probably put a few dollars in his pocket. It's very appreciated. Ady
Ady Croasdell Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 Thanks Lars, they both sound good. Jimmy actually mentioned a different 60s 45 of his on the label, I'll post up the titles when i find my notes. Any chance of scans and the flips too?

Jimmy did have another 45 on Jim Gem but i think it's another 70s recording. He also did an album on the same label as 'Jimmy Jules and the Nuclear Soul System' the b-side of that album is made up of tracks by a girl called Jackie Spencer.

I've got a recording of the other 45 on MP3 somewhere, if no one posts it up on here i'll try and find it tonight as it's not on this computer. I'm not set up to do recordings at the moment but if Jimmy needs it i could ask a friend to record the album.
Garethx Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hi Ady There's an excellent Jimmy Jules 45 on a yellow Jim Gem label: "The Same Things That Make You Laugh Will Make You Cry". I don't have a copy but I'm sure someone here will. It's exceptional Northern in the Southern style if that makes any sense.
Garethx Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 John Ridley's notes on Charley Wynn are here, plus a soundfile of the excellent deep side of his Jim Gem 45. He seems to think that Charley isn't Jimmy: https://www.sirshambling.com/artists/C/charley_wynn.htm
Steve Plumb Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I have the 45's on Gamble and on Abet too but I guess you have those Ady? Cheers Steve

He seems to think that Charley isn't Jimmy: https://www.sirshambl...harley_wynn.htm He's right, different geezer but it could well have been cut in Colorado as Jimmy had his whole NOrleans band living and working up there.
