Soul In Strange Places

I was checking my DAB radio to see if they'd finally added a new station or two and I came across one called FUNKids. They quickly corrected the name to 'FUN Kids', but not before I'd switched on because my eyes had only registered the 'FUNK' bit.

Oddly enough, they were indeed playing a rather funky tune. Then another. And another.

Apparently at 10 on Saturday and Sunday mornings they have 'Stomptime' (Or maybe it's 'Stomptown') for an hour. Nothing but 60s soul and Motown.

Insidious.

And quite right too.

In July me and the missus incorporated a weekend in Rome with a Bruce Springsteen concert at the Olympic Stadium. During the pre-concert music played (picked out apparently by Bruce himself) I was flabergasted to hear Frank Wilson's Do I Love You! I was probably the only person in the crowd who knew what it was.

I once heard something a bit funky (Still don't know what it was) whilst I was waiting for me mum in Debanhams. I made the big mistake of breaking into my patented 'funk walk'. Suddenly I became aware of CCTV cameras looking at me.

Moments later the music cut off, to be replaced by musak.

That sure told me. You're not here to enjoy yourself, you're here to spend money.
