ImberBoy Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Northernsoul Memorabilia The real stuff n not the re issued cak Not to get confused with the plethora of modern day memorabilia for Northernsoul, what was around in the day/ I know we had patches from The Casino, Mike and Russ where behind those, and I have a blinder of a story re that for a later post. Has any one got any real evidence of the "Levine must go" banners or t-shirts? Did any one get any badges or patches made? I have a small clutch of 100 Club singles, you should only have them if you got them on the night, don't you think? Was there any thing else available in the day? Posters, scarf's, Mmmm that reminds me of the T-Shirt that used the old Pepsi advert "lip smacking, thirst quenching, ace tasting, motivating, good buzzing, ... high walking, fast living, ever giving, cool fizzing, Pepsi", remember that? Can any one remember the Northernsoul version? "Hand clappin, friend makin, ?????? I have a pic some where of me old pal Brian Jolley wearing some home made baggies complete with feather cut and badges.......

Souledtrafford Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 I suspect that most people who are deeply involved in anything, will keep various bits and pieces, even if they do not see themselves as a "collector", hence there being all sorts of bits and pieces in the back of cupboards and up in lofts. Although not heavily into the Northern Soul scene from the late 60's onwards, due to the fact that I was more into football (not saying what team) and the distance from any clubs etc, I did collect memorablia relating to my team (which I still have). Due to the collecting bug being there, I still have a handful of fliers form visits to the Wheel, membership card, another from the Blackpool Casino (anybody out there go there?) long with others odds and ends. I am sure there are plenty of items out there, some that many will not even want to admit having.

I lived in Yorkshire at the time and was impressed how the 'cool dudes' were wearing bleached Levi jackets and going around wearing sunglasses! two records remind me of that time James Carr - Freedom Train and Tightrope - Charlie and Inez Fox. Ive still got my mecca Badge!
ImberBoy Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 Ahhh yes, Blackpool Casino, mega nights. I remember the cage fights and the foam machine, some would take that stuff home, I was too young to shave then
Gilly Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Hi i've kept all maner of things, Blues and Soul mags (all of them i think) Black Echoes from issue one onwards, Black Music, most of the mags from the early seventies, hundreds of flyers, record lists etc etc ive even got an old beer mat from Samanthas with Bob Bloors phone No on it (Bradford) also the (official) last night Wigan entry ticket both halves not torn. This is not forgeting all the stuff i've fetched back from Detroit. You could say suitcases of old rubbish but its been my life so i'll keep them a little longer. regards Gilly
francis t Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Back in the seventies I produced a whole range of northern soul and jazz/funk related button/pin back badges and key rings. Some were made for venues like Wigan and the Ritz. Some were made for deejays like Colin Curtis and the various northern deejays I new. Some were record labels like Red Coach, Golden World etc. At the time some folks thought that sort of stuff was naff, but I sold loads--and it started a business for me I still have 35 years later. If you see any of my early badges around buy them as I know they are quite rare and hard to find. I also made a few car stickers, if I remember rightly, but do not have file copies like I do of many of my badges. At the time it was not as easy as it is in the computer printing age to produce items, so there was not so much merchandise around. I have just produced the Skegness Weekender badges, so I am pleased to say nothing changes! francis t/Mister Tee Just remembered I made a few Northern Soul printed ties.Around about the time of the mod revival.Black slim ties with a screen print.

Yes, the Blackpool Casino was also the first soul venue that I went to, although it can't be said that it was 100% soul, as the balcony bar (an outside balcony I must add, with brilliant views up the prom) played more pop oriented stuff at times. However, it was downstairs in front of the decks with Gary Wilde that the real magic was. Ok, perhaps the go-go dancers up on stage did not fit in with northern soul, but........... The Casino must also have been one of the first soul clubs on the go, but rarely receives a mention anywhere, although Gary's name does pop up now and again. My ulimate memory is hearing Marvin's 'Little Darlin' ' for the first time and it is still my number one favourite.

Epic Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Back in 1977 - The Highland Room had some new decks fitted. My brother "liberated" one of the old decks - it was just propped up on the little stage where Levine & Curtis spun the tunes - end of the night it somehow made its way under his coat. Think of what tunes had played for the 1st time on that deck - that is what you call "proper" memorabillia !! Not saying where it is now,but I see it every week !!
Barry Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I still have a piece of Wigan dancefloor, liberated the morning of the semi demolished 'piano in the sky' stage shot.
