Guest Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Just wondering about the current state of affairs regarding the price of vinyl today, are we at the apogee now and are we likely to see the bottom fall out in the foreseeable future ?. It seems that every so called big record commands a fairly high price and only occasionally do we see certain price drops, I have always believed that the "scene" since it's very inception had it's fanatical element willing to pay top dollar for a sought after item (I'm seeing this more and more in the funk market to ), then I heard stories of collectors in the late 70's "post casino" boom selling things off (believing the end was here!). My own personal viewpoint is that with the advent of E-Bay and the WWW the whole record collecting fraternity has a virtual world at his/her fingertips (plus I know quite a few who don't really bother with the old postal listings anymore...Fact). On that footing I believe the more enlightened dealers will have to reflect a little imagination in pricing up their product i.e....let's have some competitive listings ! (to be fair I do deal with many and some reflect this fortitude) So in conclusion has the summit been reached and are we all faced with a leap of faith into that "Filthy and Rank Abyss"........

Guest becky c Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 it may force mere mortal dj's and collectors to show a little imagination and dig out the cheapies that are quality Davie link And then we'll watch them skyrocket too!!
Chalky Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 once the trophy records have dried up or wanna be dj's finally tire of them todays cheapie will be tomorrows expensive one especially if they get picked up on by certain dj's and start to gain exposure. Will take years if you ask me to plateau out and prices finally start to fall IMO. It would need a large flood of records to hit the market at once and can't see that for the forseeable future.
Guest dundeedavie Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 And then we'll watch them skyrocket too!! link yep ...then a little more digging is involved ....no one said it was ever gonna be easy lolol Davie
