Premium Stuff Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Hi all There are at least two label variations of the Bee Jays - I'll Find You/Please Don't Say We're Through on Prime. One label version has Prime in large letting. The other has Prime Records in smaller letters. Anyone know any more background on this please (e.g. which of the two variations came out first, and whether there are any other differences such as dead wax markings)? I'll Find You was also released by Valerie & Nick on Glover and written by them. Please Don't Say We're Through was released twice by the Debonaires on Golden World. Anyone got a release date on the Bee Jays 45 please? I am guessing it was later than the two above discs. Cheers Richard
Dave Pinch Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 (edited) ironic this. i was just listening to this in the car on the way to the internet cafe in dartford just now and was going to start a thread about it. i had the one on prime 20 years ago, sold it about 10 years ago. only to buy it back about 5 years ago with the prime records logo. the first thing i noticed is the prime records copy is about 15 seconds longer than the prime one. anybody else noticed this. issued in 1966 i think. not sure about stamps tho. i will have a look at the weekend when i get home dave Edited September 15, 2009 by dave pinch
Premium Stuff Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 Cheers Dave Look forward to those extra details Just had a quick look around on the internet. According to Wikipedia, Valerie & Nick's - I'll Find You on Glover came out in 1964. Soulful Detroit confirms that the Debonaires' version of Please Don't Say We're Through came out on Golden World #17 in October 1964 and on Golden World #26 in August 65. Cheers Richard
bri pinch Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 PERSONALLY, I ALWAYS THORT THAT THE PRIME RECORDS ISSUE OF THIS WAS THE FIRST ONE AS IT IS LONGER AND ON THE FADE OUT SEEMS TO LOSE IT A LITTLE MUSICALLY, THEY MAY HAVE HAD A LOOK AT IT AND DECIDED TO FADE IT OUT A LITTLE EARLIER CUTTING OFF THE BUM NOTES AT THE END AND ISSUED IT ON THE PRIME LOGO......TIS JUST A THORT. I have a Prime Copy here. The details are: "I'll Find You" deadwax - CGN - 1001 scratched in, then 334 scratched in, then an ARP stamp. "Please Don't Say We're Through" deadwax - #2 scratched in, then 2132 scratched in, then an ARP stamp, then 334 scratched in. The PDSWT side seems that same as yours, but the IFY side is clearly different. Interesting eh? Richard
Dave Pinch Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 hi richard if you play your copy of IFY the last thing you hear is bum horn note. the prime records copy goes on for another 10 seconds or so where the drummer goes for it and it actually turns into an upbeat item rather than a midtempo detroit goodie. a strange one indeed and quite rare on either label i think. imagine if it did a dottie and millie. what price eh best wishes dave
