Awsome stuff!!

Brings it all back,, real lump in ya thoat stuff if you where around at the time:thumbup:

Theres a thread on here about DJs and true to Soul Source a lot of negativity from the "experts" , but in my book Martin was the MASTER i loved his style and sheer enthusiasm its still sounds timeless to me.

In my time on the scene the only one who comes a close second is TERRY DAVIS pure DJ class mike work!!:good:

Note to Paul Donnerly we should have Martins voice on some sort of sound link for the Torch Reunion, just a thought!!

WOW.....what a star the late Matyn was!

play that to the pro-just play the records brigade!..........God Bless him A REAL DJ yes.gif

Martyn was a good mate of mine and was a PROPER DJ in the truest sence of the word.

When I got the call that "We've lost Martyn"it shattered me.

At his funeral when his son Jake did a reading it broke my heart.

Top man,Top DJ, GREATLY MISSED.

Steve.

The daddy of them all , god rest his soul

The term " they broke the mould " certainly applied to Skewesy .

I will be playing his top ten favourite records in a tribute to him , at The Torch Reunion on October 24th .

I remember as a teenager going to one of the 'Scarborough' weekends in the late 70s and whilst in the Salisbury pub one afternoon, got sat next to this geezer telling the tale. None of us knew who it was, and as 'Cleethorpes goers' had never heard of Martyn Ellis anyway so treated him just like all the rest of the crowd and we traded piss taking etc. After a while we noticed some of the 'bigger boys' were almost bowing to him but he just kept talking to us the same and never let on who he was.

We met him several times over the weekend and the penny dropped that he was one of the 'originals' but he still kept acting the same and now as I think about it, what a great guy he was.

The truth is he loved being 'one of the boys' and had a real sharp sense of humour.

Never met him after that again, but the mark he made stayed with us for years to come. Its only a while ago I read he had passed away, and was sorry to hear that. Im sure his son knows how much of a legend he was on this scene and should be proud.

I remember being in that pub close to and indeed waiting for the Manchester Ritz all-dayer to open having been at the Casino the night before myself and my good buddy Kev from Burton was having a cracker of a time being entertained by the late great Martin Ellis, he was propper on form that is until Kev from Burton put some money in the jukebox and by mistake selected Oh Carol well we all fell about laughing our bollocks off, only for Martin to stand back, shake his head and say I CANT BEAT THAT FUC.ER NOT EVEN ME. what a guy and what a mad afternoon we had. regards and indeed respect Gilly
