Lady B and I spent an enjoyable couple of hours on Sunday in Cleethorpes ( I know - the words " enjoyable " and
" Cleethorpes " are not normally used in the same sentence ) , and as part of that sojourn , we walked down the promenade from the Pier in the direction of what was the Winter Gardens .
Nearing the site of the WG , an old mate ( the first time I had seen him since Adam was a lad ) shouted me from across the other side of the road , informing me with a broad smile " slow down Burton , Gardens is shut "
After much hugging , enquiring as to each others' health and general boring matters , the subject turned to the halcyon days of Cleethorpes , and the walk between the Pier and the WG , to which he made the comment " it were a bastard if tha was blocked ,and it were a bastard if tha were straight "
That walk is unique in the history of NS venues .......
