Mike Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Ian Levine was caught red handed At the same time he was sending legal threats to site He was caught out using his account on here to send pms to other members asking them to post links in an attempt to enflame a thread about his new cd release Given the sh**ty personal abuse and threats he has sent me since via pm and emails, and have appeared elsewhere was going to reply in kind However, on a bright and sunny september morning have come to the conclusion he's just not worth the time and effort His recent actions have just finally said what many have suspected all along After discussion with all the moderating team action has been decided His account has been suspended for the foreseeable future (eg will look at it in future if felt needed)
Godzilla Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Surprised it's taken this long. Inevitably there will be some people who will think that he still has a lot to offer and will be unhappy about this decision. However, as he's making noises about starting ANS up again those who want to keep up with his activities can do so without the usual impact on this site
Guest James Trouble Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) I'm not saying a thing, not even "I told you so!". I do think it's a shame we won't get to hear the other 398 now, I did enjoy that game Maybe in few years time? Northern Soul 2011, maybe!? Something to look forward to. jocko Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) I'm not saying a thing, : I do think this is a time when you should show us your new found maturity and stick to above! Don't make this bigger than it should be James! I think most people would find it hard to disagree with your logic Mike, sadly any real value, of which I think there was actually very little, in the membership was taken away by people fighting, which was not all one sided despite what people try and say, and in all honesty him being here brought out the worst in some of his defenders as well as his attackers. It was fairly obvious SS was just a desperate marketing tool, one that ironically backfired, and as Godz says I think you held out longer than most would before getting pissed off. I think this place will be a better place based on your decision, and hopefully a few other people may now think before they shout without justification on here. Edited September 1, 2009 by jocko

Diggin' Dave Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Now theat he's gone, can anyone guess what caused all this bullying he's been doing via this website and other channels? I think he would've received much more sympathy and maybe sold more cds if he would've stayed polite and informative, but I always had the feeling some kind of trauma kept him from acting normal...
Chris L Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Mike It is yours and teams right to allow/ban anybody from your webforum, nobody would question that. Anyway..RELIEF TO OUR SOULS...hes gone, hes gone... I've got to be perfectly honest with you, this post from Mike was the first I've heard of this particular incident, so I don't know how widespread it was but he certainly didn't ask me to post anything - he usually does, until I moaned about something a month back and he stopped asking.

If you're referring to the words 'usual impact' I'm happy to clarify. I meant that people will take side and see statements made by those with a contrary view as a personal insult. Happens every time and I might venture that your reaction is another example. Rather than close the thread though, it might be better to move to members feedback. That way all those people who think they can win an argument by either repeating the same thing over and over or by attempting to belittle other members can continue to get their jollies that way and leave the rest of us to enjoy the forum. SteveM Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 it is yet another platform to throw crude, rude comments about IL. Agree totally Chris. However, plenty of threads have been used by IL to throw crude and rude comments at members on here simply because they don't follow him slavishly like some. (remember "breath cyanide" what did you file that under ? ) Bleating about someone else for being nasty to him is a bit rich. He who lives by the sword etc. etc etc.

Guest Perception Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 He's fine as a distant memory from the Mecca in the 70's, who did discover and play some great records, but thats All the Northern Soul scene needs from him!
Guest BigPaul Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) To  be honest when IL came back on SS my opinion of the man was Arrogant, Self centered, Childish, dontdisagree with owt i say or i  will iognore this user. As Steve said he used SS for his ends. Having said that he isntthe first and wont be the last.ChrisL dont think its a case croniosm the guys you highlighted can quite stand by there own postings andlike most of us astounded at the mans arrogance and lack of respect for other members  views and opinions.Acting like a spoilt child, toys out of the pram syndrome if anyone as much as disagreed the man.Only answering questions and points about me and what im doing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I asked a perfectly simple question with regard to one of his record promotions and was totally ignored.FFS he must have must have seen my post, at the time he was spending 24 hours a day (was that one of his)on here. Why do we have debate and Forums??? FFS the man could start a fight in a empty house.Dont hurry back ILPS guys never had a run in with the man, respected his contribution to the scene in the 70s. wouldnt piss onhim if he were on fire now. Got no time for no fooka who dont respect other folks right  to a view, opinion  or say. Edited September 2, 2009 by BigPaul
Ernie Andrews Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 My support of Ian is based on the great times I had at the Mecca - Its not about after that- But Guess what there are some people on here who remember those times Wigan / Mecca /Ritz and have held it agaist him ever since - so no matter what he says or does hes gonna get slated. Hes never asked me to do anything and im not defending some of the language he has used on here but the old Jewish saying " He who is without sin - cast the first stone - because Mike there been quite a few on here who should also be banned for their inputs with their language etc I have to agree with Chris L on this matter- we have all done or said something on this scene which has upset others- The problem with Ian is he doesnt know when to say sorry - But again others on here are in the same club!IMO The other problem we mortalson this site is we only have limited information - Mushrooms and all that Why dont you Mike post the suggested Legal action by IL because if he is wrong he will lose even more supporters- Debate is the tool 0f democracy - banning him seems like The Politt Beaurea not liking what the aristocracy have to say!
dthedrug Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I First met Ian Levine in 72, and by 74 my opinion of him never changed, he is a nonchalant self centered individual, who only acknowledges you if you ave something he wants?. As I said when I first joined Soul Source in a posted article about a incident at Blackpool Mecca regarding his arrogant treatment of Tony Jebb was enough for me. Leopards and spots comes to mind, all I would say is watch this man and don't underestimate what deviancy he could do to your reputation Mike?. Remember Lavine is S**T. DAVE KIL

Benji Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 ... the old Jewish saying " He who is without sin - cast the first stone -... Not that it really matters as I'm not a religious person myself, but it's christian not jewish (New Testament, John 8:2)

It sounds as though he was just fortunate enough to be on holiday as a youth in the U.S.A. when Northern was in its infancy.
Ernie Andrews Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Not that it really matters as I'm not a religious person myself, but it's christian not jewish (New Testament, John 8:2) The person said it first as recorded was Jewish therefore its a jewish saying! Its like the Christians saying the cross is their symbol - No it wasnt they adopted it as its origins are Roman as it was a tool to carry equipment as brought by General Marius in early 3rd century BC.

DAVE KIL Could you tell us about that "incident" as far as I remember Ian & Tony have always been on good terms, Tony happily agreeing to appear at the Mecca Reunion at Ians request 11 years ago. Plus I know that Tony has worked with Ian on other projects over the last 30 years and I would very, very surprised to know of any animosity, so please do tell us. Let's not forget that Ian was intrumental in getting Tony Jebb to actually step over into the Northern Soul scene, Tony of ocurse was more a Tamla/Soul saturday Night Mecca/Top Rank DJ, albeit a good one.

NO, Dont tell him. This guy is obviously intent on glamourising Levine even more. By answering his banal questions (he wiil, of course, need to quote the meaning of banal now , because he is so banal! ), we keep Levine around. Hes gone, has been since 81, so let a sleeping Whale lie in peace. This site and music in general is better of without him and his poptastic remixes and home video effects.

A good point .This can be said of most DJs on the scene right time and place etc , however having the bottle to play new sounds and IL certanly had balls of steel made him and CC interesting at that time . Still doesnt excuse his recent behavior though .

Record a sub standard record in the style of an under produced sixties soul tune. Make an understandable error of using a modern type font on the 'authentic looking lable'. Start rumours of a missing piece to his collection. Then ferret out a few copies and watch them sell at exhorbitant prices.
