Pomonkey Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Sorry Seb, don't rate the King George w/ the Harlem Kiddies version too too much (but his "Please grow up" track on the other hand is amazing!), but as well as having a copy of Lewise Bethune have tracked her down here - name on label is a mis-spelling btw - and hoping to get her on stage at a future Dig Deeper
Sebastian Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 (edited) Sorry Seb, don't rate the King George w/ the Harlem Kiddies version too too much (but his "Please grow up" track on the other hand is amazing!) I think his version on the SONET 45 is decent (and superior to anything on the Harlem Kiddies EP) but obviously too slow to be suitable for a dancefloor. I just think it's amazing that a swedish/danish artist recorded a cover of "My Baby Likes To Boogaloo" in the mid-60s. I guess he must've learned/heard it when Don Gardner and Dee Dee Ford toured Sweden at that time. King George/Harlem Kiddies might even have been their backing band for those dates, I'm trying to get more info on that. Have you heard the more uptempo funky take of "My Baby Likes To Boogaloo" and the storming "It Ain't Right" off the swedish "King George Discovery" LP? There's some good stuff on the danish Harlem Kiddies LP on SONET as well. Also worth checking out is "Last Train To Georgia" with his band Red, White and Blues plus both sides of the "I'm The Best" 45. His early 80s LP is best to avoid...
