Simsy Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Been wondering why more seventies and modern sounds don't appeal as much to me as sixties do and I got to thinking perhaps it was being into the mod scene before northern that had a bearing on this. Mods don't dig seventies do they? I mean let's be honest, all that dirty 'air and greasy clobber, it's diabolical !!! Seriously though, whilst there are many fine seventies tunes I know and love they'd still be outweighed massively by sixties soul. However there are a good many pals and folk on here I've talked to that really love the 70s and modern stuff passionately. I'm curious and always keen to know more, but some of that stuff gives me the fear, at a do, too much of it will cause one to be rooted to one's chair wearing a frown turned upside down. So I don't know ... ? Note to self - Simsy, seventies - must try harder. But then, nothin' and nobody was as cool as the Temps fronted by Ruffin so what the f*** !? Any mods (current or ex) that would agree with any of this to any degree. Any mods love seventies passionately besides Janine? Any soul fans from a non mod background got a view? Be interested to know.

Guest Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Any mods (current or ex) that would agree with any of this to any degree. Any mods love seventies passionately besides Janine? Any soul fans from a non mod background got a view? in my honest opinion 95% of mods dont like a tune unless its been over played a million times plus they were into all that mod revival crap in the 70,s theres a few mods i know that have moved on .mischief is in this category... but mention the snake or frank wilson to most mods and they go weak at the knees. there are some great 70,s tunes out there with lots more still to be found.problem is lotsa dj,s dont play them if theres lotsa mods at an event in case they empty the floor.this means they never get to hear the tunes anyway this is only my view wats everyone else think
Simsy Posted July 5, 2005 Author Posted July 5, 2005 Still love sixties soul, though prefer seventies. link Why Gary? Why oh why do you personally prefer seventies to sixties?
Gary Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 What about 80's any faves there? Tavares are cool btw link Was into Sade big time in the 80's, wore a bit thin after a while though. Lot of mod revival bands etc, Truth, Lambrettas, Merton Parkas, Secret Affair. Not the best decade for soul IMO though. Some class tracks like Charlie Manns Shonuff.

Gary Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Why Gary? Why oh why do you personally prefer seventies to sixties? link I dont know Ian and i have thought about it a lot. Dont get me wrong i love sixties soul but that seventies soul sound, i dont know why all i can think is that me mam and sister used to play it all the time and maybe it stuck and i grew into it. I know and i will admit it now, that i do quite like that almost Disco sound of a lot of seventies stuff. I really cant explain it
