Guest JJMMWGDuPree Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I have no idea why, but as I came upstairs I found myself singing a song that I don't think I've sung since I was in a group back in the late 60s. The lyrics are no problem, here's the first couple of couplets or whatever they're called. "Pretty girls everywhere, but I don't care cos I (Can't stop - lovin' you) You make it plain to see you don't love me but I (Can't stop - lovin' you)" Something that may act as a further clue is the hook line. At the end of the verse the singer goes "But I-I-I... Can't stop a-lovin'... you" That final 'you' is a strangled squeak (It's actually a tone below an octave above the previous note ie. a flattened 7th above root, but 'strangled squeak' will do). My problem is I can't remember the title or the artist. Can anyone help?

spirit Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Sorry I can't help you. I can't help either. Will anyone else who can't help let JJMMWGDuPree know as well, so if his direct appeal fails, he will at least know who can help thanks to davetay's ingenious initation of the process of elimination.
spirit Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) Is it Eugene Church...Pretty girls everywhere? I saw that one as well, but I don't think its got the other lyric OP mentions in. Like the record though. Also done by the Walker Brothers, amongst others. https://www.youtube.c...h?v=5wb5kX2hzfI Edited August 30, 2009 by spirit

Sorry I was pissed last night, and anybody who knows me will tell you that it is rarer than Lester Tipton. Edited August 30, 2009 by davetay

Guest JJMMWGDuPree Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Oh well. Thanks for the suggestions, it was worth it just to be reminded of a couple of great records, especially Eugene Church. I don't thinlk I've heard that since the nineteenfifties (Which were, of course, before I was officially born...).
