A record that was welcomed and instantly embraced by the HR crowd , and subsequently other venues on the Northern Scene .

Like you Mr R . I have attended many a Funk venue , but have never heard it played .

A record that certainly evokes a time , and still is a damn good one on the ears .......

Same band. Well, same musicians anyway. The Rimshots were the All Platinum house band around that time and i think they're on most of that stuff by the Moments, Whatnauts etc. Probably Chuck Jackson's I Got The Need too.

"Do What You Feel" - massive everywhere as a new release and was as big a "Northern" anthem as Sitting In My Class, and which for me captures a time when the scene's main rooms were awesome mixing pots of all styles and diversity was cool. Yeah of course it's funky, so what.............loved it then, and still love it today..........AWESOME

I wouldn't exactly call it Funk either. It's very Jazzy with that flute. Great record in its day.

I've got to amit I hated it back than, but watching Pete Haigh dance to it was quite good.

I remember going to a do in Blackburn (Fernhurst) mid 80s and it was played, and guss what I liked it. (and still do)

twas a big record back in the 70ts and yes it is a funky hey but theres more soul in it that a few played these days.

real funny though i played this fri night as part of a cleethorpes/mecca set

Yea I can see PH dancing to that too Dave...I've always liked it myself.....funky disco....

Funk is the make up of a lot of great tunes.. even the ones you don't always realise are funky..

They just walked backwards and forwards with their hands behind their ears as if to say,

'speak up, I can't hear you'. It certainly had the manifesto crowd confused.

Curtis had cigarrette ends flicked at him that night.

It'd be interesting to find out what he had played to warrant that reaction.

I think Brian Rae 'restored order' with the dreadful Waterfall.

Pete had his own way of dancing to this track, if you had seen it you would not forget.

I did wear drainpipes and mohair jumpers but not the plastic sandals.

After reading this I think I am glad I did not go to Peterborough.

We were spoilt in the north-west in the 70s we had do's on every day of the week and did not have far to travel.

Before I went to a All-Dayer in Birmingham in 1980, I had never been past Stoke southbound to a soul do.

This was one of the titles I had in my sales boxes by the door in the Highland Room.It certainly was a big seller alongside Ladies Choice, the Moments,Esther Phillips, Johnny Baker etc.Huge at the Meccca and the Ritz.Great memory sound.Not really funk to my ears, but probably sounded like it in the days of Wigan v Mecca debates.

If this came booming out of the speakers at any do i was at i would be on the dance floor, Along with the likes of Gentlemen & their Lady "like her!", The East Coast Connection "summer in the parks" a proper heart attack set!....all still sound brill to me

Watching Epic slide alcross the highland room as well evokes memories. Hairs on my neck stand up when I hear this as it really gets you thinking about when you were in your late teens.

Didnt we used to dance with a girl when this came on at the Mecca or was that at Blackpool Casino.

Great memories of a great record - Haigh, Naylor & Lett grooving along to The Rimshots - sliding from side to side until the all important "Do, Do Do What You Feel" chorus blasted from the Highland Room speakers - then it was on the spot, up on your toes - head bobbing up & down legs kicking out in front of you.

Fantastic period in mine & everybody else's life who loved the Mecca so much back then.

All of the Moments and The Whatnauts 7,s are worth having, some of the best "Sweet Soul" examples of the time came out of New Jersey from these guys, then also from the same stable came The New Sounds awesome set, add to this Linda Jones output theres a lot of scope for genuine soul collectors.
