boba Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I have the first number through 1008 but I don't have 1007 and don't know what 1007 is, can anyone tell me what #1007 is on this label? I don't even know why I'm interested in collecting this random label, it's just random. There's nothing past 1008, is there? 1008 is by an artist named "Kush". thanks.

galaxy Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 thanks! maybe ask Brad for the missing number. Keith Collins lives close to him too.
Dave Rimmer Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Ultimate 1999 0002 - Ultimate Ovation - Mountain of love / Deep down in my heart The Soul Harmony Singles book lists this Ultimate 1999 - The Ultimate Ovation - Deep Down In My Heart / Deep Down In My Heart (Diff. Vers.) - 1977 It may well be that this is just a demo of 002, but it might be the missing number. Either way, if it does have the different version, it's another one for you to search for

Either way, if it does have the different version, it's another one for you to search for the soul harmony singles book is just some random info without even a number (it's just the label name that they miust have thought was a number at the time), I've given one of the authors all the numbers above, I'm pretty sure there's not a deep down in my heart different version. Thanks for the tip though, I appreciate the digging.
boba Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 thanks! maybe ask Brad for the missing number. Keith Collins lives close to him too. I have asked brad before and didn't really get info, but I never specifically asked "do you know what #1007 is"?
Weingarden Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Have you heard their new record, out last year?
boba Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 Have you heard their new record, out last year? yeah, that record on eleganza? can you give any help on the 1007#? vaguely related, I thought I had run the aquarius label except for the ultimate ovation, I don't have that on aquarius (but I do have both label variations of the calvin golden) and then I was at someone's house and they had that purple snow on "saquarius" and I figured it was the same label and got annoyed because I don't have that also.

I never thought of the Purple Snow being related. It does have a different address from all the Aquarius releases and has no catalog number either. Aquarius label is another big fave of mine. Are there more than Calvin Golden, Soul In-Pressions, Domestic Five and U.O.? I think Brad told me about a 5th one but that being rock or something?! Edited September 2, 2009 by galaxy

Guest carl_p Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) the Saquarius label has an address at 8103 manor ave detroit, mi. i have an aquarius 45 that's pop as soon as i come across it again i'll let you know. Also gave brad a call. he's not sure what 1007 is off hand. his records are packed as he's in the process of moving so i'm not sure when he'll get back to me. Edited September 2, 2009 by carl_p
Weingarden Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 i think all the ultimate 1999 records i know have been mentioned! and the only aquarius records i know are the ones mentioned by galaxy...didn't know about the label variation on the calvin golden (mine's solid red). surely the detroit gemini label (el count executives) has some relation to aquarius, though, right?
boba Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 i think all the ultimate 1999 records i know have been mentioned! and the only aquarius records i know are the ones mentioned by galaxy...didn't know about the label variation on the calvin golden (mine's solid red). surely the detroit gemini label (el count executives) has some relation to aquarius, though, right? If you look in popsike you can see the two label variations of calvin golden, both labels are red but the logos are different. I don't know if gemini is related to aquarius but kennedy holman (definitely deceased)'s name is on the el count executives, soul in-pressions, solid solution, and complaments on dakar. He was definitely a member of the solid solution but I don't know if he was a member of any of the other groups or if any of the other groups were connected. anyone know more of the story behind the 4 groups I just mentioned or know if there were more common members?
Weingarden Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 can't help you with that, but yeah, i remember seeing kennedy's name on gemini and aquarius and figured they're both from detroit and both astrological...and the high voice on the soul in-pressions sounds to me like the el counts' lead singer.... how about the domestic five? the name sounds like either the inspiration for or a sly response to the international five, who have that record on starway (a detroit label?? it has a gm stamp in the runout groove but also seems to have something to do with the chanson label)....anyone know anything about either group??

I never thought the international five was from detroit (but I have no idea where the label is from so it might be, I guess it looks sort of like other GM records), but I do know that james lately or whoever people were saying was the lead of the domestic five was NOT the lead singer or a member of the group, my friend talked to someone affiliated with the label a while back, I can ask him the details. I love that track "so in love with you", what a killer sweet soul track, I will look at the international five track tonight and compare names / sounds with the domestic five. isn't chanson a new jersey label?
Weingarden Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 yeah, i love that international five record. don't remember names on it, but fairly certain about the gm stamp. and yeah, at least SOME chanson releases are definitely new jersey, but then there's the charlie chuck record, which i think is midwestern. it's all a mystery to me....
Weingarden Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I think Howard Collins is the name that links all the Chanson records and the International Five....Who's he?
boba Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 I think Howard Collins is the name that links all the Chanson records and the International Five....Who's he? I don't know but the international five record says a chanson production. there were no common names on the domestic five record but I don't know if that means anything because I think the names on the domestic five record were just the writers / producers.
boba Posted February 14, 2010 Author Posted February 14, 2010 yeah, that record on eleganza? can you give any help on the 1007#? vaguely related, I thought I had run the aquarius label except for the ultimate ovation, I don't have that on aquarius (but I do have both label variations of the calvin golden) and then I was at someone's house and they had that purple snow on "saquarius" and I figured it was the same label and got annoyed because I don't have that also. OK, finally ran the label and got the missing number, here is 1007: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330402664577 Ultimate 1999 1007 - Kush - Summertime is here / inst. I don't know if it's an identical recording to 1008 but the label design is different, the 1008 # is a green label with a different font.
Dave Thorley Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I saw them playing live last year in Detroit, Brad and his group were the backing band. It was a 4th of July outside gig on West Grand Blv, great fun. Later that day we went done to the lakeshore to see Mary Wilson and Martha Reeves doing an outdoor gig, a nice day out all round. Dave
boba Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 sorry to keep responding to this thread, but I was putting away the record and saw that 1008 was not "summertime was here" it was "D&D" and I just wanted to correct it so that this thread had the full, correct discography. here it is: 0001 Ultimate Ovation "Hello Baby" / "Chameleon Man" (first released as Aquarius 0004) 0002 Ultimate Ovation - Mountain of love / Deep down in my heart 0003 Ultimate Ovation "Come To The Front" / "Mountain Of Love" 1004 Ultimate Ovation "Showdown" / "Black" 1005 Ali & Aliyah - Come to the front / pt. 2 1006 Ultimate Ovation with Ali and Aaliyah "If Living This Way" / inst 1007 Kush "Summertime Is Here" / inst 1008 Kush "D&D" / Inst
