The toy consists of a plastic ankle ring to which is attached a30-in. string with a bell-shaped weight at the other end. The object is to twirl the string with one foot and hop with the other; well-coordinated youngsters can now twirl three Footsees at once—one on each leg and one on anarm. In the first three months on the U.S. market, about 4,000,000 of the $1.29 toys were sold. The reason cannot be novelty: a similar toy enjoyed brief popularity four years ago. Robert Asch, president of Twinpak Ltd. of Montreal, whichmakes the Footsee, is sure the game is far older; he got the idea while watching Arab children in Jerusalem playing with like contraptions. As for using a footspa , neither have I : so I must be according to you , a " proper man " ....... I would be interested to hear your definition / interpratation of what a " proper man " is ....... It's "Original Vinyl", as in first issue, and yes, with the picture sleeve. The one where Russ Winstanley says that this is "Northern Soul at its raucous best".

I've never played it at our local Legion soul nights but I play it at home sometimes cos just as for many people of a similar age it's really nostalgic and one of the first 'northern' tunes I ever heard. If a dj played it I'd dance to it even though it's not considered cool anymore.

Problem is there are 4 different picture sleeves you have to have the right one!

We used to play this but with grenades instead of a bell.

Tomangoes Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Since I heard this, and records like it first............Falbala, The Flasher, Superlove, My hearts symphony, as an introduction to Northern Soul (Baileys nappy nights), then this is what Northern Soul was. However, the 'bigger boys' who had done the Wheel/Torch/VaVa etc must have been horrified at this 'genre' creeping into the playlists. These super pop dance records increased the numbers of youngsters coming onto the scene, but at the expense of folks who probably had had enough of it getting commercialised. The record charted, so somebody must have made a few bob out of it. On the other hand 90% of the rare soul we all love made nowt for anybody apart from DJ's, COLLECTORS, AND PROMOTERS!! Ed
