NEV Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 (edited) it is crazy how the price is dropping on this record, i paid 85 for mine. not so in demand anymore? It's not crazy at all There are copies on ebay or in sales every week....white demo's and black issues in abundance. A good friend once told me a valuable lesson about record buying. Records that came out on big labels were made in abundance so will always be available ,records that were only put out on small local labels are rare. RCA VICTOR is a massive label therefore pressed untold thousands of copies ,and this record is no exception . What's crazy is why people keep paying over a £100 for it https://cgi.ebay.com/Northern-Soul-THE-METROS-Since-I-Found-My-Baby-LISTEN_W0QQitemZ350239829382QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Records?hash=item518bebad86&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 heres this weeks offering Edited August 22, 2009 by NEV

Or Willie Kendrick, Michael & Raymond. What about Dean Courtney on black MGM, who's got one, I have, but there's never been another one for sale.

Ok Pete Always exceptions but on the whole i think my point was aimed at the general release of a record by a large label. Demos ,stock copies were not mass produced as they were made for radio stations or retailers . Quite obviously ratio of radio stations ,retailers against the general public (paying customers) is a lot less. Popsike shows about 4 pages of this record .
Dave Pinch Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 not really any exceptions with major label demos. yes if you collect stock copies its trickier but demo`s unless there is a particular reason ( withdrawn or whatever). lets face it the internet makes a mockery of what we call rare soul dave
Guest Decroco Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I got £200 for my german picture sleeve only the other month.

George G Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Speaking as someone who has been digging for records in the US continuously for 30 years, RCA promos and Columbia promos are by far the most common major label records. Both labels were very generous in their 'radio station service' (as they call it) and flooded radio stations, musical institutions, and schools with their promo copies. Unlike other labels, which sent stations specific promos based on genre to stations in those markets, these labels sent everything to any station with a hint they might play them. There's one RCA record (a garage 45, Lloyd and the Village Squires) that I've never seen on a US copy, I believe it was only released in the band's native Canada, even though it was assigned a US RCA number. The Zombies 45 on Columbia is pretty rare. I've seen stock copies for Willie Kendrick (both) and Don Ray (both, the first non-Northern one is really easy to find). I don't know about Gia Mateo, I've never really been into the record and would not have noticed them. - George
