Gary Samways Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 in the mid 70's when i first got into the soul scene, i bought a re-issue of 1-2-3 (mca 105). the b side says it's Bullseye, but it aint!, it sounds like a 70's production, male vocal (probably blue eyed). now, i aint trying to say i've found a mystery fantastic modern unknown,it's okish at the best, but it's been bugging me as to what it really is for all these years so can anyone out there shed a light please?

The MCA reissue of 1-2-3 had "You Baby" on the B side, which was MU 1172, so I don't know the one you have, the list number suggests it may not be a UK release - got a Scan / Sound Clip ? Cheers Mick holdsworth
Gary Samways Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 mick, definately a uk reissue, maybe 2nd reissue??? not sure how to put up a soundfile

Mick Holdsworth Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Who said my copy was a 7ts reissue, well your wrong its from the 6ts. Think he means his copy on MCA 105, not just "any" copy - Yes it's had umpteen reissues in the 60's and 70's, but the one he means is 123 / bullseye on black label with rainbow at 10 o'clock MCA 105

Gary Samways Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 mick, here's a sound file (i hope!)01 Track 1.mp3 01 Track 1.mp3
Guest Paul Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 mick, here's a sound file (i hope!) I don't recognise the track but it's a bit bland, especially the vocals. They've obviously used the wrong stamper at EMI. What is the matrix number on the actual disc? That might give us a clue.
Gary Samways Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 yeah i never said it was a good record, just would love to know what it is out of curiosity. think you might be onto something with matrix numbers though, 1-2-3 is mca 105 a-1 (as you would expect), b-side is mag 105 b-1u what d'ya think? mix up with a record on magnet? cheers

And itseems that on the B-side they've actually used the stampers for Magnet MAG 105 B rather than MCA 105 B. Now we can find out who it is.
Guest Paul Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 It's 'Still Love You Girl' by the JALN Band. Must admit, the horns are pretty good for a UK track but the song and vocals aren't so hot. Now you can buy yourself a "proper" copy on Magnet.
Gary Samways Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 just tried googling magnet records listing but no joy, off out now will try later cheers paul

Mick Holdsworth Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 mick, here's a sound file (i hope!) Thanks for that Gary Seems the mystery has been solved while I went to the shop for 20 mins, so I'm off to set up a camera inside the fridge to see if the light stays on when the door is closed (even when I'm NOT looking) Cheers Mick
