in the mid 70's when i first got into the soul scene, i bought a re-issue of 1-2-3 (mca 105).

the b side says it's Bullseye, but it aint!, it sounds like a 70's production, male vocal

(probably blue eyed). now, i aint trying to say i've found a mystery fantastic modern

unknown,it's okish at the best, but it's been bugging me as to what it really is for

all these years so can anyone out there shed a light please?

The MCA reissue of 1-2-3 had "You Baby" on the B side, which was MU 1172, so I don't know the one you have, the list number suggests it may not be a UK release - got a Scan / Sound Clip ?

Think he means his copy on MCA 105, not just "any" copy - Yes it's had umpteen reissues in the 60's and 70's, but the one he means is 123 / bullseye on black label with rainbow at 10 o'clock MCA 105

mick, here's a sound file (i hope!)

I don't recognise the track but it's a bit bland, especially the vocals. They've obviously used the wrong stamper at EMI.

What is the matrix number on the actual disc? That might give us a clue.

yeah i never said it was a good record, just would love to know what it is out of curiosity.

think you might be onto something with matrix numbers though, 1-2-3 is mca 105 a-1 (as you would expect), b-side is mag 105 b-1u:chinstroke:

what d'ya think? mix up with a record on magnet?

cheers

The matrix suffix confirms it was the EMI factory in Hayes. And itseems that on the B-side they've actually used the stampers for Magnet MAG 105 B rather than MCA 105 B.

Now we can find out who it is.

It's 'Still Love You Girl' by the JALN Band.

Must admit, the horns are pretty good for a UK track but the song and vocals aren't so hot.

Now you can buy yourself a "proper" copy on Magnet.

I'm sure they were an all black group - six or seven members?

Thanks for that Gary

Seems the mystery has been solved while I went to the shop for 20 mins, so I'm off to set up a camera inside the fridge to see if the light stays on when the door is closed (even when I'm NOT looking)

Cheers
