Did you say she was Hispanic??! Sugar Pie Disanto??......... :)

Didn't say anything - I only have the photo I posted to go on and I thought she looked white. Certainly sounds white anyway.

Ace records have just put out a mighty fine comp of Sugarpie's work and she had hits in the US and singles released in the UK and Europe so she ain't obscure.

how come you laugh at me for de shannon, when webby has decosta, isis has d"andrea lol

is it de somebody

I been laughing at him all night :) and it's sure not de nobody.

But it ain't de somebody...

Judy Hughes

Obscure enough I reckon but Judy's tune is too good.

Remember I said it was only played a short while in the bad old years and I'm pretty sure it's never been reactivated.

Jeanette White

I like 'Music' and I really like the flip "No Sunshine". This is a much worse tune and played a little later, Ken.

As a matter of fact I've just googled her as I haven't for a while and it seems her other record isn't as obscure as I initially thought. In fact it's appeared on some Rock 'n Roll compilations :)

................................l just hope to God that at the end of all this l wiil have heard of her...Broadway Sissy!

er.....Lesley Uggams?...Mary Saxton?........

You may not have unless you went to Wigan in the pop days. Not Mary Saxton.

As for Leslie Uggams - didn't you watch "Roots"?

....Maybe,mate but it's complete and utter GARBAGE!! ....anyway back on topic....Susan Coleman?....And yes l do happen to be guessing!!:unsure:

That's getting closer in poppyness Wendy. Maybe the closest so far? Don't put too much weight on that though, as I don't really know anything about Susan Coleman apart from her doing age of the Wolf.

As an aside I have my X-Ray Specs on and I can see who the anonymous members watching this thread are. Wish they'd join in and have a go but I bet they don't...

Cheers ken - good idea. Not Joanie though. In fact I've revised my guess about her and I think she's a bit more of a Wanda Jackson type rock n roller, rather than a teener like Joanie

Are you two in the same room?

That's poppy enough but not her. I have a feeling you'll get her now you're on the right lines. as long as Webby doesn't say Mary Wells or something like...

Any of these -

Judy Street

Vala Regan

Laura Greene

Nope

Nope

Nope

First clue:

There's another version of this (maybe the first?) from 1969 on a major label. This other version is a group and someone has already suggested the first word in the groups name when they had a guess.

Is her big n/soul tune on MGM ? YES/NO

No - ask me if it's on a well known label next...

and I didn't say it was big - although it was popular enough to get booted and came out on a CD comp.

That's loads of clues!

Martha Reeves!!

Correct!!

You might do better asking me about the boot actually...

..although I bet she wishes she was as sucessful as the original label suggests...

Didn't she have stuff on Capitol that was sort of soul? Anyway, SB's record is much better than this one.

Blanch Carter

Fraid not - even worse tune in my book. Not Toni Fisher either Ken. She had another hit didn't she? And I don't think her version of The Big Hurt wa s played was it?

Posted

is the word/name beverly in there somewhere, like you mentioned about the other group who had a version?

What like Beverly Hillbillies? Sorry our kid - not Beverly.

I'm surprised no-ones asked questions about the bootleg. I need a bath and want to watch The Street (Not Corrie!) at 9 o'clock, so could do with someone getting it in the next 10 mins.

the word paper anything to do with the other group who had a version

Nah - you'd all do better asking some questions about the boot. I think that could really point you in the right direction.

And that last phrase is not a clue btw

Not all of 'em you haven't.

Thing is the other version is not really well known either, although it has been comped a couple of times. Not on sould comps though and it's much poppier than the lady's version. Which is saying something. Might even be the first version. Came out 1969 on Decca if you're determined to go down that route
