are children of todays collectors and DJs goig to be the future of the soul scene ?

are they going to inherit the collections and the love of the music from their parents.

my first interest was due to my dad talking about the late 60s and early 70s soul scene. Shame he doesn't have any rare records but never mind he certainly lit the spark for me and got my interest in all this. He was more into general club soul and motown but it was his stories about the dancing, clothes and clubs that got me wanting to find out more.

I know i'd like my kids to grow up liking soul music and would love for my modest collection to be passed down the family. They are certainly having to listen to enough of it whilst gorwing up but who knows.....

As anybody thought on how much records will be worth in... say 30 years time? anything is only worth what someone will pay and will them people be around? i would say probably not..

james trouble could probably tell you what mutual funds to buy instead to make a better return on your investment

Don't realy want it to be a now much will they be worth thread.

bob for example. Was it something you got into because your parents liked and you heard it whilst growing up it or did you discover it yourself ?

Ok fair enough, soz.....

As long as they are happy i don't care if my kids grow up loving soul music, or get involved in the northern soul scene. It's their lives and their choice. I've always loved lots of forms of music, my grandad was a church organist and my sister is a professional musician, so i'd like to think they'll grow up loving music, whether it's soul or not doesn't bother me.

Seems to be plenty of new younger collectors arriving on the scene to me.

Many People still migrate from the scootering scene and world wide the rare soul fraternity is growing.

I think its pretty healthy at the moment, it may fade away a little from time to time as it has done in the past, that said we have the best musical taste in the world so someone is always going to pick up the mantle when we all depart, the music speaks for it self and will live on.

my parents never owned a record player actually.

i got into soul music by listening to rap music first, most people in the US my age who know anything about soul probably have a similar history (although they probably know more about funk than sweet soul).

I'll be 50 in 20 years and will still be buying records, hopefully they will be nice and cheap!

Hey, that's something to look forward too!.. instead of 50 year olds paying £000's for records they bought for 2d 30 years ago and since sold,

We could be 50 year olds paying nob all for records we originally paid £000's for.. when folks of our generation are clearing out

attics of deceased older relatives, there might be loads more rarities going around then too!!

p.s. in answer to original question, yes. Just look at Beat boutique. I'm sure it'll be different as we're different to clubs from first time round but I'm sure it'll still be here. Our top djs' must have all been young start ups once.

We can't be sure what the future brings.. Don't lose any sleep thuinking about it..

Just get on with it now... Get out there and share the music and enjoy spending time with mates..

As long as i am around i hope i can still be there to help others get into it in fact i could be a top DJ by then and in 20 years i will be 48 lol think about it. some of you lot will be wanting to come out and who says in 20 years top DJ's like Smudge, Tony Dellar, Soul Sam etc will want to stop DJing.

Really hope that it'll be still going, and that our newer soul fans can get as much enjoyment as i have for 35+ years, and i'm only startin out, still hearing wonderful tunes for the first time week in , week out, and also shite stuff as ever, and still lovin' it

My only safe bet prediction for the future would be that if im still alive and going i'll probably be smashed!!!

Only just seen this thread........would love her to get the joy out of music and it's associated social that I have (and continue to have).........doesn't need to be soul music, just a love of music..............BUT.......what really made me smile was the thought of my avatar (look left) which I've had for a while, which is the cover that my daughter made for a small CD compilation which she picked the tracks out for. She was 6 when she did this (7 now) LOL!!!!

Being that most people on the scene are 45 and upwards, people your age are actually 'the future of the scene'!!!!!!!!!! Those of us who will be 70 or over in 20 years - and manage to survive - will be checking on you young'uns to make sure your still at it like we were at your age i.e NOW lol!!!

Spot on! If I was 30 now, I'd reckon on a load of us lot trotting off to the eternal Niter in the Sky in the next couple of decades and our kids flogging off enormous amounts of vinyl for quick cash! I know for a fact there are collections coming out in rashes in the states because of a certain age group starting to drop and their families just flogging it all off for relative pennies. I have a mate in the Bronx who bought 500 records last year for 2,500 dollars - estimated sell on worth 20,000 dollars plus....

Its got to happen here, human nature says it and after all, relatives have been flogging off the family silver for instant cash since wills first came into existence, why should old vinyl be any different?
