Guest Scarborosoul Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 (edited) I didn't say Newcastle Rick - there was a lot of folk travelled to all nighters from Tyneside I know because I was one of them and I knew Big Ray very well. I said that there were not a lot of niter folk from Sunderland which was a wee bit odd given how big the scene was in County Durham with places like Aycliffe and Darlington and Middlesborough packed with Soul fans. Cheers Manus Mackums always have lived in a different reality from everyone else Hiya m8, Do we know each other then? Obvious by the name where Im from. Do you also know Cully, Ritchie,Chalky or Rob Skid? All from those areas. Ive not seen Ray for donkeys years. Do you know the whereabouts of any of the old NE crowd? Rick Hello Rick - No don't think we know each other although if you were friends with Ray then we would have been in the same company at some point I'm sure. I don't think anybodys seen Ray for a long time - I know that there were attempts to locate him to let him know about dear Sylvia Henderson/Croasdell's funeral but he couldn't be found - there was a rumour he was driving a cab in the Boro area but I don't know if there's any truth in that. There's still a lot of the NE crowd around - I left there about 24/25 years ago but I was up at a Soul do in Gateshead recently and lot's of the old faces were there and it was great seeing them all again. There are quite a few on here - Paul Mooney, Jeff Heads , Kev Johnson, Baz A , Kev Cane and Tim (Toaster) who's from the Peterlee area and Davy Mason and Toma joined recently. Cheers Manus

Cheers Manus Manus/Rick The last time a saw and spoke to Big Ray was about 5 years ago, me and Toma were at Beach in Whitley Bay at one of Ash's do's and he turned up, apart from the hair he looked no different, your right about the taxi driving he told me he was doing that but if I recall correctly it was in Tynemouth/Whitley Bay and he was still living in the area I'll do some digging see what he is up to
Paul Conroy Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Manus Just remebered about that night at the big hotel in Tynemouth ( can't remember it's name I think the Grand ????) never mind there was a bus on from Gateshead remember getting picked up at Heworth Metro with Toma, Tonge, Cranny and Jeffrey Joe to name a few and there was a huge fight with some knackers from a pub across the road, for some reason it had something to do with Ted White and Duncan ( I may be wrong) but Big Ray was in the thick of it, were you there???? Paul
Guest Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Been reading this thread again and thought it was of worth a revival - I really like Ken's post at 19 and also Louise's - Jazzie B really annoyed me to Cheers Manus I know Mikey's closed his thread down probably rightly so. But I would like to make a point that I don't think has been raised - although I think it's quite relevant. Jazzy B goes to a Northern do up north - he feels uncomfortable so therefore the scene is racist. What an easy and lazy conclusion to arrive at. I would venture that anyone arriving at a Northern do for the first time - irrespective of the colour of your skin, would feel a little uncomfortable - I know I did all those years ago. Our scene is different - which is why many of us are into it. It is an underground scene - and our clubs were nothing like your main stream club - thank heavens! It does take a while to find your feet - I've said on here before that you had to "pass" your initiation. Which we've all done - ok a bit tongue in cheek. It had nothing to do with the colour of your skin - you might have been accused of being a div or a plastic! Jazzy B has demonstrated with his lazy, ignorant accusation that he knows nothing about our scene - yet from his lofty position he would have us all down as racists. It really is pathetic. Sorry - l had to get that off my chest. Does look good this post Manus cheers.
