Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 (edited) whats that ken Cut and paste into your browser, and it will take you too all that Jazzie B OBE talking rubbish thread on here. I know Mikey's closed his thread down probably rightly so. But I would like to make a point that I don't think has been raised - although I think it's quite relevant. Jazzy B goes to a Northern do up north - he feels uncomfortable so therefore the scene is racist. What an easy and lazy conclusion to arrive at. I would venture that anyone arriving at a Northern do for the first time - irrespective of the colour of your skin, would feel a little uncomfortable - I know I did all those years ago. Our scene is different - which is why many of us are into it. It is an underground scene - and our clubs were nothing like your main stream club - thank heavens! It does take a while to find your feet - I've said on here before that you had to "pass" your initiation. Which we've all done - ok a bit tongue in cheek. It had nothing to do with the colour of your skin - you might have been accused of being a div or a plastic! Jazzy B has demonstrated with his lazy, ignorant accusation that he knows nothing about our scene - yet from his lofty position he would have us all down as racists. It really is pathetic. Sorry - l had to get that off my chest. 0 Edited January 23, 2011 by ken
Gigs Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Anyway fellas I think Chris could be right with Vernon from Bradford or there was someone called Simon from wolverhampton who won 6th anniversery dance comp but not to clear on it........anyone
Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Think that you have well and truely nailed it there Ken...I always thought that when you first start going that you are 'On the outside looking in' and then (Whatever time it takes) 'You're on the inside looking out' ....Kinell it's not like us to be sensible is it,mate!? Hardly.

Have been in touch with Jeff via Friends Reunited; that's how I know he's back in Shevington. Can't remember his friends name but lived locally at Shevington too. Jeff was in the Navy and often went to nighters with me and others from down South.

Professorturnups Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 T. Nelson went to Lowton for that TV Doc. Still got it on video. Keb Darge was with him. Trevor Nelson was a bit unsure at first but came round when he realised people were just doing their own thing on the floor etc. He became familiar with some of the sounds during the night and said he even owned a couple. Thought it was ok mark C
Paul R Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 was his friend Eamon?? a very handsome chap i fancied and kissed! wheres he gone, did he die? (that was a serious question, i seem to remember someone telling me he did but hopefully wrong!) x If you're thinking about Eamon Ashall from Wigan, I met him accidently in 1988. He was married, and living in Hove, West Sussex. We went out for a few beers, and I went round to his house. I hadn't seen him for about 12 years prior to that. I havn't seen him since. Paul

Jill Bayles Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Its all a proper fuzzy wuzzy blur so I'm afraid I cannot now make any valuable or indeed positive contribution whatsoever to this thread but having read it from beginning to end I do know that I'm now absolutely no clearer as to the identity of said three lol

manus Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Hi Manus his name was Brian and he was from Peterlee.Regards Tim. Thanks Tim - his name had escaped me. And Peterlee makes more sense as there didn't really seem to be many niter folk around from Sunderland back then - odd considering how big the scene was in County Durham. Cheers Manus

Guest Scarborosoul Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 His name was Brian Johnson and yes he was from peterlee. Dont know why you say not many from Newcastle Chalky Whitw & big Ray good mates of mine along with Peterlee/Blackhall/Monkey Hanger land and Middlesbrough lads who all knew each other. There was also a regular coach from Peterlee. Rick

Rick I didn't say Newcastle Rick - there was a lot of folk travelled to all nighters from Tyneside I know because I was one of them and I knew Big Ray very well. I said that there were not a lot of niter folk from Sunderland which was a wee bit odd given how big the scene was in County Durham with places like Aycliffe and Darlington and Middlesborough packed with Soul fans. Cheers Manus
