Jordirip Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 original is styrene with raised s stamp... boot is vinyl Yes, orig is styrene, boot is vinyl but it's a dreadful recording on the boot and a very low cut press so it sounds shit. The styrene orig sounds nice and loud and is a great recording and press. Jordi

Guest Nick Harrison Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Other information which maybe worth checking states - original styrene press raised stamped in encircle, the letter S in the flipside deadwax. Hope that helps.

KevH Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Sure this has been covered before, can't remember the outcome .Anyway, mines a moulded label with SD-643b scratched on the runout.I guess the styrene ones should be stick on labels?

I saw the boot on ebay recently go high similarly, at least it made me feel slightly less stupid, it looks real.

Jordirip Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Well there is four of em' Boba,i didnt pay a lot for mine.........it's real till i see a styrene scan,Goldmine say so. Ken, I've had both. I still have my styrene original and I sold my boot the minute I got my styrene copy. Those scans on popsike are the styrene ones apart from the second one which is the vinyl boot and has a pronounced dip / ring in the middle of the label. The boot isn't common and nor is the original, so I suppose not too many people get to compare them both. What is undeniable though is the sound difference. Jordi

Rich B Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Absolutely no doubt that the styrene copies are the originals. The vinyl copies, "I think", were produced for a dealer in the Nottinghamshire area. Initialy some were sold with white labels and handwritten credits, and touted as 'test pressings'. at the time there were copies of 'Little' Eddie Taylor (also with white label/handwritten credits) from the same source. They were widely regarded as originals at the time, the Timothy Wilson being very rarely seen. Even in the supposedly 'boot free' environment of Cleethorpes in '75 I only ever saw an emidisc of TW played (it had Doni Burdick "I have faith in you on the other side) and tht's the reason the dodgy vinyl copies were accepted, there was nothing to compare them with, and no internet and little printed media dealing with this sort of thing. I was widely criticised (localy) at the time for questioning records from this source - by people who had paid a lot of money for records - and were too embarassed to admit the mistake. If you ever get the two together it will all become obvious. best, RB.

Jordirip Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Yes and it pays to know the difference as I bought what I thought was a boot and sold it thinking the same to the very knowedgable Mr Rippoles lol BH Blake me old mate, that Sunday morning at Yarmouth in the record bar as you opened that door and virtually bashed into me with your record box, thus giving me first opportunity to delve, still brings a little smile to my face. To be fair, I wasn't sure whether it was orig or not at the time even though I had the dodgy sound vinyl boot already, it was Dave Welding who told me it was kosher afterwards. Jordi
KevH Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Styrene with stick on labels? As opposed to moulded label?.
Jordirip Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Styrene with stick on labels? As opposed to moulded label?. Kev, have you read the thread fella? Styrene, stuck on labels with stamp in runout and brilliant sound quality = ORIG. Vinyl with dinked centre of moulded label and shit low cut sound = BOOT. Unless there's a brilliant sound, vinyl, orig stamped press somewhere that no-one has come up with yet. Jordi

Jordi yes my dear,i have read it.Nowhere does anyone mention stick on labels ,on styrene.Thought i remembered a thread in the past where someone had a hybrid - styrene with a moulded version label...may be wrong...it has been known...

OK i'M GOING TO COME CLEAN...I purchased the last copy of Tim Wilson off ebay, cheap I thought considering the description on ebay from the seller. On returning from my hols to Rimini the record was at the Postie awaiting a siggy, I was horrified to see it was vinyl, not going to go into seller bollocks but the bloke who sold it to me is suggesting it was deffo styrene and if I received a vinyl copy then someone opend up the box and changed the thing over, yeah allright fellar however, it plays VERY LOUD and CRYSTAL CLEAR....So it would appear I have a one off mint- vinyl boot that is crystal clear..ffs someone who's ITK put me right before I go ape with a ebay and no doubt make a complete twat of myself (again) Funny ole game this Northern soul bollocks en it Greavsie
