Dayo Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 A friend of mine had a lovely slow/mid tempo record yonks ago which I tried without success to prise out of his clutches. I don't think it was terribly rare, just a nice tune. Trouble is I've forgotten both the title and artist! I'm pretty sure it was on a DC label. By somebody like Karl and the Dreams? Or maybe even Karl and the DC's? Title might have been "Do what you gotta do" or something postive like that. Any clues anyone? It's daft I know, but I wake up at night trying to remember it! And while I'm showing my ignorance, can someone tell me what was the correct title/artist of the Wigan cover-up by the Casino Brothers, "We've got to keep on" or something similar. I recall it was huge, I ought to know it... My brain is definitely not what it was! Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!
Guest Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 Hi Dayo, i've got " Don't Be Afraid" by Frankie Karl and the Dreams on the D.C. sound ltd label ( though this was from Washington) it is a delightful mid-tempo mover. Not certain this is the song though. Brett
Dayo Posted April 17, 2004 Author Posted April 17, 2004 Brett Forgive the rather short reply. Thats the tune I was trying to think of. Thanks so much. Can someone help me out on the Casino Brothers thing? It was big around 1973... Right, now I'm off to post a provocative little thread!
Guest Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 Dayo can't help on the casino bros thing, but i've just done some detective work for you on the Frankie Karl follow this link https://db3.gemm.com/c/search.pl?sid=368627...ld=frankie+karl
Dayo Posted April 17, 2004 Author Posted April 17, 2004 Chuckling here at those prices for a soul pack record! Thanks Brett.
Guest Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Hi, the Casino Brothers tune you are asking about was a cover up. It is in fact 'We've Got To Keep On' by the Casonva Two A brilliant record and I still love 30 years later!
Dayo Posted April 20, 2004 Author Posted April 20, 2004 Hi RG Thanks for that. I did a quick Google and it looks like Fred Hughes (oo wee baby) was one of the Casanova Two. Totally agree, and although it's 30 years since I've heard the track, it was a brilliant record. Now trying to find it on a cd compilation.
Guest Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 The Casanova Two featured Freddie Hughes (Wand, Wee, etc.), and not Fred Hughes (Vee Jay, Exodus, Chess etc.). There's a brilliant midtempo version of "We Got To Keep On" on the Freddie Hughes "Send My Baby Back" lp on Wand, that I've rarely heard out. It should be played more.
