I cannot recall what the first " Club Soul " record was that I bought , but Bud Harper " Mr Soul " , was certainly the first one I paid " real " money for .....

I thought you preferred Aer, er, Lingus, Kev whistling.gif

Anyway, my answer is Jackie Wilson, Sweetest Feeling

Can't stand to hear it these days, but me & my friend Steph used to high kick around me Mam's living room clapping under our knees and stuff. We were rubbish, but we scored highly for artistic impression... laugh.gif

(all together now...!) TOMMY NEAL ON UK VOCALION ! laugh.gif

Not counting Motown, I think the next one though was probably Dee Dee Sharp "What Kind Of Lady" (UK Action) - or possibly Bobby Wells on Beacon (white re-issue)

The first two singles I bought were both from 'Greaves' record shop in Rhyl and were:

Dee Dee Sharp - What kind of lady - Action.

Little carl Carlton - Competition aint nothing - Action.

I also bought my second pair of Lee Rider jeans the same day from Horesh's in Rhyl. (see Flasher below)

whistling.gif i have just put them on, and had a little dance in the kitchen, shhh.gif . i cant help likin the snake, and it must be because its one of my first ones, and i was only 6 at the time (1985) and id begged my mum and dad that id wanted some records of my own because they were both into northern and mod stuff, and it was my birthday and amongst other kiddy stuff, i can remember being so chuffed and 'grown up' coz i had records, lol biggrin.gif and when we came on, my dad put them on, and he was teaching me to dance and backdrop to them,lol....happy days wink.gif

talking of blagging the door, the northern scene has to be the hardest door to blag!... guest list??? very rare..

how are you jill, not seen you since robs funeral, thought of him last southport, bless him ...you keeping ok? x

Hi Lorna

Memories eh...except mine are a little hazy...I remember earning £4 from my Saturday job and that used to fund my Wigan jaunt that night...if I had to pay my train fare that covered it but I had a free pass for the trains as my da worked on the railway so generally I didn't have to pay...then money in, however much that was and 20 fags...if I didn't need to pay train fare I came back with money in my pocket but if I had to then my pockets were empty. Didn't do "naughty things" thank God cos no money for them then!

I didn't drink so that's probably why I don't remember how much alcohol cost back in the day innocent.gif

God I would never have dared go out with 50p cos I was far too coy to blag hitch or cadge.

That Purple Haze track was the only one I had on 7" so no clue as to the elusive third track I'm afraid.

PM for you hun

Working on those pyramids must have been really hard work, mate! thumbsup.gif ..£7 Must have been before it came out om ABC and made No1....By the way...'How flat is Alberta??!'

 Bloody hard work - I was the hod carrier!

Yes, it was before it was re-issued (just ) and was a crap copy, probably G-, but I was just chuffed to own it. In my little world the only copies I knew of were played at the Cally in Dunstable, and The George at Wilby nr Wellingboro'.

Alberta? Flat as a witches tit. Not a tree to be seen for days, and a place fit only for snakes and mosquitos.

Rain - Out of my mind.

Dave

Mine was a reissue (boot?) on RCA Victor (or it might have been Disco Demand or something like that) of the 3 before 8, Jimmy Radcliffe, Dean Parish, Tobi Legend on the same 45, came out in 1978/9 and bought in a local record shop that had a tiny box of pressings for sale... or it might have been Coloured Man on Black Magic.
