One of the things I like about the scene today, compared with the past is the ease in which you can pick up new tunes. Case to point, a mate has just dropped off a couple of dvds with a load of mp3s on. But, in amongst there are a couple of real comic gems.

Dena Barnes - surely some ones having a laugh? Helium filled vocals over Duke Browners backing track.

Ann Sexton - having a bad day? No wonder she was poorly received at Wigan

Anybody match these - sound files appreciated.

Col.

Yes - someone was having a laugh around 1975 - it's a scam. Bit like the Earl Wright on Soul Galore which sampled the "Psychedelic Shite" intro, or the Royal Vibes "Wigan Joker" scam, which was quite simply the Mylestones track with the laughs taken off, and replaced by Patrick Moore on his vibraphone, during a break from filming The Sky at Night.

It was late 76 that it got played Gene, and I have to tell you, I don't remember anyone questioning it at the time as it absolutely rammed the dancefloor...for 2 weeks, after that it got pressed and disappeared

Earl Wright was actually Pretty Purdie from a Columbia lp (I think) "Soul Drums".

The Royal Vibes is brilliant though

Did the Pertty Purdie LP track also have the same "Psychedelic Soul" intro on it?

No. Also, they only used half the track, put the psyechedlic soul noise in the middle then restarted it from the beginning!

I think she sent her song to her solicitor and her divorce letter made it to us..

Do you think her solicitor now has the rights to a great song.

Perhaps because it was outed as a scam and wasn't really Dena at all?
