Guest carl_p Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 i've never actually heard it and i've only seen it offered once or twice so that's probably a great deal. i'm guessing it would be the four gents group with maybe a revised line up? there is another detroit "Gent's" record on Midnight Records which is also probably related but it's an earlier sound.

I hope so, I think sound impression is a detroit label so the midnight records release would seem logical, a sound file of this anyone?

The label number follows the toledo "midnight" label (joey leal) produced by johnny gibson except that it's an arp pressing. ted weelock told me it was absolutely a detroit group and i believe he also said it was a toledo label.

I think the names on the record sound like white people's names though, like white people were producing the record and trying to make it sounds garagey. The names on the sound impression record are: writer: Powl Christianson Produced by Greg Sutton Engineer: Brian Dombrowski Arranged and conducted by Martin simmons the four gents records on encore are written by Tom Kemp. one is arranged by Dale Warren, one is arranged by Henry Smith Jr. They are a Meehan - McGuire production. I suprisingly don't have the HBR record, can someone check that one for a common name? as it is, there is no common name across these two. For the record, here is the info on the gents on paramount: Both sides written by Bobby Flax, Lenny Lambert Arranged by Paul Griffin Engineered by Jerome Gaspar For the record, I was wrong when I said 40 pounds was the "going rate", I think I paid $50 for my VG copy of the Gents on sound impressions and have only seen it for sale a few times, I think $100 for M- copy once, so it is pretty rare and 40 pounds is a pretty good price for a M- copy I guess. I would say the value is still based more on rarity than quality though as it's just a garagey group funk record to me. Can someone post the info on the HBR record? it's common but I don't have it.

Question about the sound impression label anyone know the catalogue numbers for: 6801, 6803, 6805, 6806 #6803 is by the Solitary Confinement, it's a garage 45. Brian Dombrowski also recorded records using the same numbering system, but they were issued using private labels and not Sound Impressions. For example, there's a record he did by the Lykes Of Us, on the Molt label, but the numbering is 6801 - could be 6801/2. I found that Gents record years ago, I don't even remember what I did with it.
