Guest MissHongkongfuey Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Afternoon All After years of loving and enjoying RnB and 60's Soul, I'm now really starting to dig Ska and Jamaican R&B but i know absolutely nowt about it!! Can anyone help me with some websites, books etc so i can have a browse, a listen and learn a bit more???? There are just so many obscure Artists, labels etc that i really don't know where to start. I buy shedloads of compilations but it doesn't really give me the labels or artist information i want. The same with buying vinyl......Now and again, i want something to go in my box, I have a butchers on ebay, can't find it and then give up because i don't know where else to look. Or i Popsike it, find it last sold for a few thousand quid and then sob quietly not knowing if there are re-issues available Help would be gratefully appreciated Teresa

The two books by Sanctuary are good too, Tighten Up and Young Gidted & Black, all about Trojan and the UK reggae scene, both still available. Music wise, see if you can find any of my old podcasts (search on here) if I was able to advertise I could do you a few thousand tracks on disc but I can't so... there's a few forums too, will try and get back to you with more info but looks like I have to go out for a bit!
Guest MissHongkongfuey Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Thanks for that Pete! I'm gonna start with search on the books and browse for the podcasts, starting tonight when it all goes quiet here.

I'd add "Top Ska Tunes" (Trojan / TJCCD165) - Gaz Mayall selections has some walloping rarities, just ignore the self-indulgent liner notes. Has anyone mentioned "Duke Reid The Trojan - Nuclear Weapon" (Trojan / TJCCD090) - another not to be overlooked. Track listings for all available if needs be - just ask...
Pete S Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I recommend this on unreservedly, Teresa - if you can find it... I've never seen that before Zap, looks fantastic, can you do me one? But hey don't let that reach the eyes and ears of the nazi moderator on the Pama forum, don't want to get you into any trouble. A music forum that doesn't allow music. Whatever next.
ZapatootheTiger Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I'm sure I can squeeze something out, Pete I picked this one up in Germany (in a shop called Saturn in Cologne in about 2000) - I've read that it's not an official release, though it looks kosher...

Biggordy Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Another good reggae forum is Chatty Mouth. https://djgreedyg.proboards.com/ I started it about 4 years ago now and while it doesn't have the membership numbers of somewhere like SS, it's almost 900 now and there's a steady flow of traffic. I don't run it anymore but might know a man who helps out G
