Dennisoul Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I was absolutely delighted today to pick up a copy of Paul Sindab....You Dropped Your Candy In The Sand...Hype...from my mate. Was on my way to work when I picked it up. .......It was a boiling hot day and the lad I bought it from said " mind and don't let it it melt in the car...no refunds for a melted 45 ". No probs I thought, so when I got to work I parked the car in a shady spot and put the 45 under the car seat for safe keeping. After work I phoned the misses to say goodnight from the car as it was 11:30pm.....got into my pad not long after. Had bite to eat and settled down for a read before going to sleep. Then I remembered I`d left the record in the car, still under the car seat. Oh!! better get the 45 out the car and bring it in for a quick listen......Went out to the car to find the 45 had slipped from under the seat, out of the sleeve and was placed perfectly under the clutch pedal...my heart sank to a level deeper than where the Titanic is sleeping.......Yip snapped from the edge, to the label on one side. F=+kin delighted!!!!...F=+kin railway boots and USA 60s northern tunes dont mix.!!!! A positive if anything its a clean break and still plays.... but shattered....both me and Paul Sindab Andy

Mark Bicknell Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Has to be one of the worst gut wrenching feelings in the world when shit like this happens, many years ago when I was out DJ'ing I pulled 'The Seven Souls' Okeh stocker out of my box, took the record out of the sleeves and there it was a clean crack through the record, to this day I don't now how it happened it just did, still have it upstairs in one of the boxes stuck together with tape, plays with a slight click but not audible through a sound system, totally worthless of course, only wish I replaced it at the time but never got round to it, still makes me cry to this day, similar thing happened to a 'Van Dykes' Issue that just broke clean in half in my hands but managed to replace that with a demo. Regards - Mark Bicknell. Edited June 30, 2009 by Mark Bicknell
Keithw Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 YEP--remember was tidying up in the office and thought will just move this to here then this to here picked up a flight case, lid open, with a couple of records on top being lazy really lid comes down, wack piece of vinyl pings up in the air oh no,bit chipped off a record remembering this is my best sales box--nothing under 50-00 in/on there BOB COLLINS--INVENTORY OF HEARTACHES it sure was,i was gutted
Russoul1 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 this thread as just reminded me, when i was about 11 or 12 around 75, i managed to prise a copy of "the poppies" "pain in my heart" from a mate whilst biking home with the record tucked away in my jacket being chuffed with myself and couldnt wait to get home to play it, well when i did get home pulled the record from my jacket to my horror it had snapped into two!! i can still remember the feeling of being really devastated, left a real pain in my heart..... so the moral is; dont put a record up your jacket whilst riding a bike!!! oh by the way ive grown up now lol russ
Toodarnsoulful Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 HAd a party at my house a few years back, my room was a no go zone as me records n stuff were there and everyone knew this though there was loads of randoms in teh house at this party..anyhow at one stage of the night when most people were pissed as farts i was coming out of the bathroom to see at the bottom of the coridoor some random girl heading for my room (noo! i wasnt thinkin great my lucks in! haha) I was thinking my bloody records are evrywhere and lots in piles on ground..literally before i could open my mouth, she fell through my bloody door pissed outta her head and i heard a crack, a distinctive crack..no, not the crack that bone makes (though at this stage i'm seriously thinking bones will be broke soon!) i knew she'd fallen on a record or records! shitting my bags, i fleased down the corridor in my room lifted her up off ground with the kind words of "for f*** sake, what the f*** are you doing in my room and get the f*** out" turned on the light with fear to reveal what the damage was.................. Silky hargreaves on Dearborn was sitting staring at me without sleeve on ground, the smell of poo filled the air.....beside that the Platters Washed ashore also out of sleeve on floor....... the end result.....Silky was safe as houses not a mark and the platters cracked in half...Phew... Anyhoo thought i'd share that... Get those records on the shelves up high!!.. L
Gigs Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I remember I used to frequent Kev Roberts record shop in mansfield(early eighties)called vinylmania, was in in there most saturday afternoons, anyway this particular cold winter saturday afternoon I was parked in the liesure centre car park about a mile away so as to avoid getting another parking ticket. It was freezing so by the time I reached my car my hands were nearly numb,so fumbled about for my keys and hurriedley drove home, after a couple of miles my thoughts turned to the nighter I was going to and was very glad I managed to pick up those 3 records(can't remember what they were now)then I suddenley remembered in my haste to get in the car I had left the f%$^kers on the roof, turned back and sure enough at the entrance to the carpark peices of vinyl all over road with cars still running over them so Ijust looked round made sure no one was watching and pissed off home

Guest Sean Doyle Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Not a snapped record. But a broken heart. I was staying with my sister when I first moved to London. Bought a Joey Gee 'It's more than I deserve' off Ady Pierce I think. I'd been after it for a while. It arrived at her house one morning. I opened it, had a look, slipped it back in the cardboard envelope, and left for work happy. Got back that night and nearly had a heart attack as I looked on the shelf where I'd left it and it wasn't there. I asked my sister had she seen a 7 inch card-envelope. She said she'd chucked it out, thinking it was so light there couldn't have been anything in it. I proceeded to smash her kitchen up.

At least if you do it yourself you know who to blame. I still remember the sick feeling I got seeing the large boot print on the outside of one brown packet. Inside a mint Billy Kennedy - Sweet Things on Thema with a one inch mess of cracks on the run in. It still plays after two clicks on the run in and I got most of my money back as it had been sent special delivery and packed well, but it is still a sad sight. Played it yesterday and it still wrankles. Cheers Paul
