Pete S Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 One of the most blatant fakes I've ever seen - Mick Smith told me he asked the seller if it was an original and the seller said it had only ever been bootlegged on the Contact label - which I presume this is, with another label stuck on top https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280357258792&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:GB:1123#ebayphotohosting
Jerry Hipkiss Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Again, it's the print style on the artist and title that immediately stands out as being wrong - just imagine if someone tried that stunt at 3am at a niter in dodgy light though....
Supercorsa Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Has anyone got a scan of an original for comparison?
Kjw Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Happened to me once - I bought a Pink Decca demo of Lee Roye - Tears off Ebay and when I got it it was the MCA pressing with a copied label. Obviously went straight back to the seller. Funnily enough he didn't think he'd done anything wrong - he seemed to think I should have guessed it wasn't genuine based on the price I won it at!
Kjw Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Not sure, but weren't the bootlegs pressed on vinyl - that copy shown is styrene
Pete S Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 Not sure, but weren't the bootlegs pressed on vinyl - that copy shown is styrene It's still a dodgy label...
Guest Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Not sure, but weren't the bootlegs pressed on vinyl - that copy shown is styrene It was booted twice on Contact, once on multi-coloured label and again on a sky blue label.
Guest gordon russell Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 who'd wanna boot that rubbish.......the mind boggles lol
Guest Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 And its still crap whatever label it's oooooooonnnnnnnnn

I should know better and yes, on reflection, the label typeface certainly looks dodgy but I've only ever noticed white demos before - must have had a few beers too many! I'm usually pretty careful and just assumed it was legit. The 45 hasn't arrived yet but looks like I'll be demanding a refund (even though the listing of course says no returns for the item). Hello Mr Paypal!
Mach Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Yep ..it just didnt sit right with me ..although judging by the bids, plenty of people were convinced it was legit.. (its a minefield out there)
Mach Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Benelew, you aint the fool, many people could have been duped on this one, we all know of the the two contact reissues, and its never been booted on mercury, so on the face of it ,( its an original), but the opportunist counterfeiters are still at it..

Thanks Big Chris, I e-mailed the vendor and he was apologetic and believed himself it was legit. He's offered me a refund to protect his reputation which is good of him.
Benelew Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Simsy, as I'm the buyer of this 'dodgy' 45, are you able to tell me what I should expect to see in the deadwax on the orig as opposed to the Contact boots? Cheers, Benelew

I received the 45 this morning and even though it looks like STYRENE in the scan it is indeed on VINYL and has C102 scratched in the run-out! Not a bad attempt despite the fundamentals being wrong? I wonder how many more there are? I've been promised my money back so it will be returned forthwith! benelew
