What about that brilliant Brendetta Davis 45' on Liberty, have it somewhere but can't remember the title (meant to be Brenda Holloway isn't it ?

Remember going to a local do at a working mens club some years back (88/90 ?) and the great, late Dave Godin sat on a small stage with a single record deck beside him and he played his all time top ten "deep soul" records and this was one of them, a very strange (but excellent) evening, Dave did small lectures in between each record explaning in great detail what they meant to him including the deeper implications on a social/political front !

We Interveiwed Brenda On Right Track Show last year, she said it wasn't her.

Just been listening to "Someway Somehow" by the Marvelettes, Wanda Rogers vocal is utterly heartbreakingly gorgeous...all those breaks and catches, as though she's been sobbing.

Although not a ballad, more of an up-beat dancer in arrangment.....yet O.C Smiths' version of Color Him Father..chokes me...a truly beautiful lyric...huh.gif gulp.

For me they are:

Essex IV : I just can't take it

Curtis Anderson: Hardest Part

Four Tops: I just can't get you out of my mind

&

Ray Pollard: The Drifter.

I think the Dells 'Make sure you have someone to Love you' is emotionally charged, but all that melodrama about 'shuffling off this mortal coil' starts me laughing just as I'm getting really miserable! Perhaps it's meant to be funny, in a dark way?

Now look what you've brought up again,Malc!! l can hear Tony R wringing his hands from here!!

What time does your plane leave...and please make sure you're on it!!:unsure:

Sorry Phil , but SWM is a record I have never taken to , and doubt I ever will .

The nail in the coffin came for me , with the recent mobile phone advert that has a massed congregation - especially one very off key knob - " singing " the song ......

I only voiced my opinion Phil , and not ctiticism of yours ......

If it dunt av 2b Norvern Phil I'd say ....

Al Johnson & Jean Carn - Im back for more (choking up just writing the title-gulp!!)

There's no sense in me fooling myself

there is no sense in avoiding yoooo

Since you been gone I cant think of nothing else

I just cant last a daaay without yoooo

'cause everytime I think I'm over you

You cross my mind & wake up memories

There aint nothin left to do

But come running straight to you

And let you know just whats on my miiiind

Im back for more

Of that love that we had before

Im back for more of that you & me

Like before -oooo sweet harmony

Im back for more

Of that love that we had before

So many nights of just remininiscing

Trying to find what my life was missing

We were lost but now we've been found

Its so much better the second time around

Its fascinating to see love regenerating

From all this time that we have been waiting

There aint nothing left to do

but come running straight to you

And let you know just whaaats on my miiiiiind !!! (that bit HAS to be in bold cos my heart just wants to burst out when its yelled from the record!!) Absolutely awesome tune (for me anyway)

I'll get back to you on a Norvern one Phil as there is a fair few out there but thats the one that just hits me right there all the time I hear it.

laugh.gif Ha Ha ! I have to agree Malc. yes.gif No one & I mean no-one quite does it like Al & Jean !!

I guess the line in the song "its so much better the 2nd time around" DOES NOT apply to little Lulu !!
