45cellar Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) We Posted Virtually Same Time. I Was Just Wondering Which Format The 3 Known Copies Refers To. 3 Known Stock Copies, Or 3 Known Total (Any Format) Edited June 19, 2009 by 45cellar
Mick Holdsworth Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I Was Just Wondering Which Format The 3 Known Copies Refers To. 3 Known Stock Copies, Or 3 Known Total (Any Format) The 3 known copies refers to black labelled UK stock copies, if that figure is accurate. We know one copy was lost forever (Richard Searling / Car / Roof / Wigan / Bolton etc ..) but on the other hand a fresh copy was found in the 90's, (someone on here found it in .. Sydenham ?? ) so it may be 3 copies .. again. Cheers Mick
Pete S Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 The thing is - yes, there may be only 3 test presses but they must have done a full run of finished stock copies, so they've either all been dumped or they are still waiting to be found.

Hi Pete, Must admit I don't know of any other UK test presses other than the one in the first post .. oh and the US Bell Sound acetate. I meant 3 black labelled copies, although that figure is the one banded about for 30 years or more - 1 copy lost, 1 copy gained, blah blah ... but your right, Decca in the UK undoubtedly pressed a full run, or close to it, but only these few escaped the crusher after Len's departure to RCA. - I also agree there may be one or two more out there in non-record land still waiting to be found. Cheers Mick

Cheers Mick There probably would have been six TPs originally, that was Decca's standard run. If there was anything untoward that necessitated a remaster, they'd do that and cut another six TPs, and so on and so forth until they found a run that met with universal approval. So, if we knew of seven TPs, that would have probably meant 12 existed originally, 13 TPs would have meant 18 existed etc. But most TPs were aproved on the first run, so there were likely as not only six pressed. The stock copy that John auctioned last year used to live about two miles away from me. The seller was very pleased with what he got for it but I have to say that I personally expected it would go for a lot more than it did, given how rare it is....
